Sounds like Howard may have secured the rights to his old tapes

How great would that be? Howard gets the rights to his old material at a price of $2M and all is settled.
  3. the two million is what sirius is paying to cbs for the tapes. It doesnt mention anything about the settlement between stern and cbs.

2 million seems a fair price and its something stern fans definatly will enjoy.
  4. Apparently, the statement read "Sirius, for its part, will make a total payment of $2 million related to this conveyance."

It leaves open the possibility that Stern may have paid something in addition. Sure would like to see the rest of the settlement.

Are you high?? Stern's tapes are worth WAY more than 2 million.... I'm calling bullshit on this. Unless CBS was really worried about the counter suit, no way they gave up the tapes for 2 million.

Well, when combined with what Howard and Buchwald are throwing in I would guess that CBS got a fair price for the tapes. Especially considering that they are worth jack shit if they are left to rot on a shelf somewhere.

I think this piece of the settlement shows that the lawsuit was a shameless grab for cash. They could have sat down like men and worked out a deal for the tapes, but CBS decided to go the lawyer route and try to extort money out of Sirius and Stern. CBS never intended for this to ever see a day in court - they were working towards a settlement the whole time.

I'm waiting to hear this is real... I'm still calling bullshit.

very true. although the reports came from reliable sources, I would still like to hear Howard's take on it.
  9. If this pans out to be true, then SIRIUS lawyers out did themselves. Stern has wanted all those old shows since he left. This would be a dream come true for Howard. It would certainly be cool hearing some of those old tapes.
  10. If he really did get all the rights to the old tapes, they should just play them on another channel 24/7. With the addition of streaming, a channel of Classic Howard would make the already-great deal of $13 a month freaking unbeatable!

Yes indeed fire up that 3rd channel and make it a Howard Classics Channel. Good suggestion Proper... I LIKE IT!

If this is true, CBS is getting ass raped. I really don't believe it. Those tapes are worth a billion- no joking- and CBS knows it. Either the counter suit was strong as hell or something else happened. No way CBS us giving up right to those tapes for $2 million. That's chump change.

Oh I agree with you 100% if CBS gave them up for this small amount there is a hell of lot more to this story than we'll probably ever know about. Could be that old Howard had some major dirt that he gave to Sirius attorney's and suddenly CBS just wanted this thing to go away. It will indeed be interesting to see how this REALLY pans out. But like you I am suspicious, but we'll see.

And the tapes are worthless unless all parties could come to a financial agreement on how to let them be aired. Maybe CBS figured that a few million in the hand is worth a billion in the bush...

All I know is that Howard seemed to be in a really good mood the past two days and I don't think that would have been the case if he were getting killed in the settlement.

Maybe that's the catch- that CBS gets part of the sales. First thing Mel is going to do is market those tapes. Shit, even if they give up a little bit on the return, those tapes are invaluable. I said since the beginning of this whole lawsuit that it's about those tapes.
  16. I hope this is true and when Howard gets all of his old tapes, he can start his 3rd channel!
