Longtime radio programmer and current Sirius Satellite Radio executive VP of programming Jay Clark has announced plans to retire after more than four-and-a-half decades in broadcasting.

Clark’s radio resume sports a host of legendary call letters from across the country, including stints at WTRY/Albany, N.Y., WPRO/Providence, WTIC/Hartford, WABC/New York, WGAR and WWWE/Cleveland, KRLA and KLSX/Los Angeles, WTKS/Orlando, WONE and WLLZ/Detroit, as well as management gigs at the Winstar Radio Network and SportsFan Radio Network.

Clark told R&R he’s looking forward to spending more time with his family, who have remained in Florida over the past four years while he’s commuted back and forth between the Sunshine State and his current job at Sirius in New York.

“I have a sailboat that I don’t ever sail,” he said. “So I am really looking forward to enjoying some time on the water before it’s too late. I hope I don’t wake up a couple of months from now and regret this decision but I really thought long and hard about it and really felt that it’s time.”

Clark will remain on the job at Sirius through the end of January 2007.

I’m sure many members will be hoping for big changes in Sirius’ programming philosophy, in wake of Mr. Clark’s departure.
