Looks like the Forbes.com video might have been correct, somewhat… Both SIRIUS and XM have announced today when they will report. SIRIUS will announce on February 27.  Read the press release from SIRIUS below:

SIRIUS Satellite Radio today announced that it plans to release 2006 financial and operating results on February 27, 2007.

Can someone explain the logic of never announcing a date until after XM does, and then only ever announcing results after XM does? Seems strange to me.

The logic is easy- Sirius gets an advantage by hearing what the street is interested in by listening to the questions asked. Sirius also has an opportunity to respond to whatever XM reports.

Now, whether you like that or not is up to you. I guess since Sirius is still playing catch-up it can justify giving the honor to XM on reporting first.

I just find it interesting because I have never seen a more apprehensive approach to reporting. Its almost as if they are afraid to announce, or worse yet, are incapable of handling the situation of reporting before XM. If they cant handle what questions the street may ask without getting a preview of the XM call, then they have absolutely no business trying to run a company of this magnitude.

Mel and company need to suck it up and do things on their own schedule and on their own terms. They paint themselves in a very pathetic light by doing this.

Well, what you call pathetic others probably call smart. Mel knows very well how to run a business "of this magnitude." I'm also sure Sirius is very capable of reporting first, but as I said, I think the industry leader earns the right to go first.

Having said that, I don't know that it has really helped Sirius all that much by reporting second, so I don't know why its so important to Mel.
  5. I believe that before Mel came on board, Sirius used to report first and XM was always the next day. I don't know if that was "pathetic" when XM did it.

I didnt follow either company back then, so I cant speak to it. If the tables were turned I would feel the same way. Its almost as if Sirius is saying that they cant make the decision on their own, and they are not capable of reporting without having some insight into the numbers that XM will report, and the questions that they will get hit with by the street.

Obviously in a two horse race, you will only ever have someone report first and someone report last, however the approach of waiting for your competition to announce a date and then sneeking in after them does not in any way depict a confident leadership team to me.
  7. What bothers me is that both companies take so long to report. Huge companies like IBM release their results 20-25 days after the quarter. It takes XM and Sirius 2 MONTHS to get their ducks in order and report?!?!

Like someone said earlier in this thread. It's almost like they are afraid to release their results.

Yeah, and the first time when/if they make a buck they'll report 12.01am on the 1st of the month.
