Coming Soon: The Sirius Wireless Repeater

123repeater.jpgSirius will be selling a personal wireless ‘repeater’ starting next month. The SIRWRS1 has a picture at TSS-Radio(right) and you can sign up to be notified. The price is $99.99, and it will allow you to hook up an antenna up to 75 feet away(line of sight) from where your radio is.

The repeater works on the 900 MHz band. If you want to hook up additional radios, they will sell additional wireless receivers, dubbed SIRWRR1, for $49.99. Both will be available in mid-March.

I take it you want one?
  3. Ok, I have to ask being that it wasn't spelled out for me... (Burned too many times in my life to assume anything means what it should obviously mean )

When they say "personal wireless 'repeater'" do they mean it repeats the satellite or wi-fi signal? Satellite signal repeater is VERY VERY cool... Wifi repeater is kinda not really news...

My thinking is that it would be the satellite signal being that the Stiletto wasnt mentioned specifically, but just want to be clear...
  4. I look forward to sharing some Sirius love with my office mates.

If it is anything like the XM version (looks to be the case), it takes the satellite signal and repeats it on the 900 MHz band. You'll have a receiver unit that picks up the 900 MHz signal at the desired location and feeds that to your receiver's antenna input.

You'll still need to put the antenna in a good location. This does not appear to do anything for wi-fi...but there are wi-fi repeaters out there to do that if your access point does not give you the desired coverage.

    I debated typing... oOOHHHHOOHHH.

Yeah I want one. I was going to get the distribution kit posted by Michigan. But wireless might be better, albit a much more expensive option. The advantage.... I don't have to climb around in the ceiling and go buy some cable.

It won't work with the Stiletto (outside of a home dock), unless we get a portable antenna adaptor.

Even if you had a portable antenna adapter, would you really want to be walking around with that big 900MHz receiver box? :-)

For the Stiletto, one of those simple antenna/amplifier/antenna setups like they have in Circuit City would probably be best... or of course Sirius providing high-quality streams via WiFi for those who've coughed up the extra $3/mo.
  9. $99.99 is a great starting price for the Sirius Repeater. I have the XM repeater and they still run from $119-$169. If you can afford it, get it. It is great not being stressed out trying to get a signal in the house.

Way to go. Spread that Sirius love throughout those offices nationwide.
  11. Just plan accordingly, the 900 spectrum is also used by some cordless phones, plus some cell phones (thankfully) have the option to operate in the 850 block. Same problem with wifi and some phones, kills your wifi when you answer the phone.

For a period of time since my radio was about 6 feet away, if I used my microwave, I lost sat signal (2300mhz-ish and the microwave is at 2400mhz).

Word for the wise is all. I'd be tempted at getting one for my parents who now live in the woods so they can get some elevation on the antenna they have now, and move it away from the window.
  12. Yeah I'm thinking of getting one for my mom for mother's day... she's never really been able to listen to Sirius in her office due to the orientation of the house.
  13. so lets say you put the antenna outside of a buliding lets say out front and you put the reapeater on the 2nd floor would you get a signal? also anyway to make it beyond 75 foot?

  15. That looks cool, I hope that it works and is the solution that some people have been looking for.
  16. Mid March?? That is too long. I want one now!!!

Borrow DAB's time machine. (He uses it to be the first one to get and test everything. He's an earlier adopter.)

It depends on how far away the transmitter and receiver are from each other and how much is in between it. Lots of plumbing, wires, etc. will decrease it's range. It' will all depend.

Why do so many people need more than 75'. That's longer than most homes. If you place the antenna/transmitter along a line that would cut the house in half you have a better chance of it working where it needs to. If you put the transmitter in a window it will broadcast the full 75' outdoors. If you have a house so large that 150' wont cover you(it broadcasts all around, not straight line so you have 75' in any direction from the repeater), I'm thinking you have more than enough money to integrate Sirius into a computer controlled home media center that runs through out the house.

I am sure it is but I am questioning if the receiver with the flip up antenna "stick" is weather proof for placing outside.
  20. I dont have a Stiletto, but i was just wondering; Would this repeater work with the Stiletto while using the antenna head phones? I've seen alot of Stiletto users talking about the repeater and how it wouldnt work for them.

It's not going to do anything for the Stiletto if the Stiletto is NOT IN A DOCK.

The Wireless Repeater is Really more of a Wireless Antenna Kit than it is a Repeater. When we think of repeaters we think that it will be able to boost for example the Terr or Sat signal on the Stiletto in portable mode. It won't be doing that.

What the wireless repeater is good at is substituting for things like the Cable Distribution Kit of the Home Signal Distribution Kit. And in fact per radio it's a bit more expensive.
  22. Question for everyone...

So this comes with a wireless receiver it looks like. Could this wireless receiver be used in the car with a typical car roof antenna hard connection? I have a portable play that I want to move between my car and home. I wouldn't want to have to pay for 2 subscriptions in order to listen in my car and my home.

Sure, you could do that (as long as you want to use the radio inside reasonably close to where you parked your car), but you'd probably be better off spending your money on one of the (newer) radios that has a home dock available. The newer docks provide power, the antenna, and audio all in one connector, so it's very fast to just grab the entire radio and take it in the house with you.

To clarify: the repeater will only work if I have the Stilleto in the dock? It will not work if I have the repeater on and am sitting with the radio about 50 feet away in another room (my antenna is in a room that I'm not always in).

I presume that this would allow me to broadcast onto a regular radio in another room, like I can do with my Starmate right now. As to the Stilleto, currently I plug in a wireless headset I already have that allows me to hear the radio a nice distance away.I don't see how the repeater would improve my situation.

Are my assumptions correct or am I missing something?
  25. You are missing something.

The repeater will replace the home dock's external antenna. It won't replace your Stilleto's headphone antenna. It has nothing to do with the FM transmitter you have in your Starmate now.
  26. so, is there any update on this thing? I've called and emailed sirius about this thing...and they either say they don't know what i'm talking about (email) or, when i called, told me it was available at a website (i think i was directed to tss-radio). i called tss-radio and they said that it's actually passed due and they have no idea when it'll be available.

does anyone here know anything else?

What I meant is that I can put on my Starmate and have it come in on most radios across the house. When I put on my Stilleto, it doesn't even come in on a radio 10 feet away.

What I'm not sure about is, if I get the wireless, will I be able to receive satellite on my Stilleto even if it is not in the dock, but is with me walking around the house (at least in range of the transmitter). I want to use it like a walkman and WiFi doesn't give me sports (in season anyway).

I really don't think it will do what you want. There is an actual receiving antenna attached to a box that has a cable that plugs into your antenna in jack. I suppose if it is all battery operated, you could lug all that stuff around with you. In reality, it seems like this would be suited best for a fixed installation.
  29. Ok, its mid-march and i went to click on the TSS link in the first message here (also tried to search for it there), and there is no such product...

Whats the current word on this thing?
