Sirius as Factory Option in All 2008 Mitsubishi’s/Where are the First Quarter Sub Numbers?

Mitsubishi is offering Sirius as a factory option in all 2008 Model Year vehicles, and additionally it will be standard equipment on the 2008 Eclipse Spyder(available this month), and packaged with the premium audio system on the 2008 Galant, Raider, Endeavor, Outlander, Lancer, Eclipse and Lancer Evolution. It will come with a six month subscription at no charge.

The latest in the auto announcements, this marks 5 automotive announcements in 9 days that talk up Sirius and new partnerships. The odd thing is that they have not released their subscriber numbers for the first quarter, perhaps signalling that they are not as stellar as they should be. It looks more and more like they will wait for earnings to release them, or they are trying to release as many positive announcements as they can before the subscriber numbers are published. Hopefully the merger announcement in February did not turn too many people away for the first quarter.

It should also be mentioned that XM has done a similar thing as well, in the last couple days announcing XM will be standard on Infinitis, as well as additional Hyundais and Lexuses(Lexii?). This may just be to counter Sirius though, because in the third quarter 2006 conference call, they stated that they will wait until earnings to give subscriber numbers in the future, save for the year end numbers given at CES.

  1. This is a nice addition, although support was supposed to be included in 06' models moving forward. I purchased a 2006 Eclipse GT with that implied. There is an AUX function that no one seems to have a strait answer on how to use, except a $150 ipod adapter. I love my car, but it kills me that I can't have Sirius work through my awesome 650/watt Rockford Fosgate stock system. I am left contemplating ripping out the unique center console to mod it to fit a standard deck instead
