Who is Marty Snider?

I’ve heard numerous complaints on air, or bulletin boards. I’ve also seen people praise his efforts. On occasion, I’ve heard his radio co-host, David Poole drop the hint that he’s a very busy man and I’ve implied from other subtle statements that he’s got his fingers in more than we know about up front. I wanted to know more about Marty, this guy I listen to on the radio every morning on SIRIUS Satellite Radio, or pit reporting on TV and so I dug around on the internet and came up with some info and wanted to share this with you.First off, YES, there’s much more to Marty Snider than meets the eye!!

Marty Snider has covered NASCAR over the years for several media outlets including Motor Racing Network(MRN), CNNSi, ESPN, NASCAR.com and TNT / NBCSports.com as a NASCAR Insider. And as you all know, he is also a co-host with David Poole of “The Morning Drive” which airs every weekday from 7:00-11:00 AM ET on SIRIUS NASCAR Radio, channel 128.

On top of all this, he has other underlying aspirations, or maybe, I should say endeavors moving full steam ahead, but that’s for a little later.

Marty was raised in High Point, N.C., and has hung around auto racing since he was 10 years old & has been involved in the sport as a broadcaster since his days as an undergrad at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte since 1991.

While at the University of North Carolina – Charlotte, Marty got his degree in political science. While at the University of North Carolina, Marty helped start the local Charlotte chapter of the Delta Sigma Phi fraternity. He served as the chapter’s Founding President and it has been recognized several times as chapter of the year within the Delta Sigma Phi organization. Reportedly, Marty is head of the Charlotte Area Alumni Board for Delta Sigma Phi.

Marty Snider started as in intern WGHP in High Point, N.C. from 1991-93. He began working for WGHP as an intern and was hired as a sports reporter and was actually on the air while he was finishing his senior year of college. He reported on sports for WYFF, the NBC affiliate in Greenville, S.C. from 1993-94 and

From 1994-1997, he worked as a reporter and associate producer for ESPN’s “NASCAR Today.”

From 1995 to 2000, Marty worked as a pit reporter for the Motor Racing Network’s (MRN) NASCAR radio broadcasts.

From 1998 through 2002: Marty was at Turner Sports as a pit reporter for their NASCAR on TNT and a year later joined NBC’s NASCAR broadcast team.

Snider was also CNN-SI’s NASCAR reporter from 1998-2002.

On top of all that, he is a regular contributor to NASCAR.COM.

For NBC Sports, Marty also covers the NFL for NBC’s pre-game show, Football Night in America. He’s also been known to be found pit reporting for the Champ Car World Series.

Oh yea, Marty runs a NASCAR blog at http://www.nbcsports.com/martysnider/blog/

This writer is exhausted just going over what looks like an incredibly high energy pace, but wait, there’s more, as I said earlier.

In addition to everything else, Marty has owned Marty Snider & Associates since 1994.

MS&A is a video production company, purportedly with clients such as several top race teams and sponsors in NASCAR as well as some Fortune 500 companies world wide.

Marty is also actively involved in his church, Lake Forest Community Church where he was a founding member and he helped spearhead a campaign to raise funds to build LFCC’s first building.

Marty currently resides in Charlotte, N.C. with his wife Andrea and their children, where he gets his 2 hours of sleep a day! (One source says he has 2 children, Wikipedia says he has 3.)

Comments:

  1. I like Marty Snider. He's great on TV.
  2. I've also heard it mentioned on the show that he coaches or is at least deeply involved in his daughter's competition swimming....and he talks about shopping for parts and keeping a race car going for his son..as well as crew chiefing...think it's in the bandeleros. He may be busy with his work life...but, what impresses me the most is the fact that he finds the time to actively and regularly participate in family and community activities.
  3. Just reading what all Marty does makes me tired!!!
