Traditional Christmas Music Lovers Rejoice: Sirius Adds Bing Crosby Christmas Radio 12/21-12/25

Many people have complained about the lack of a traditional christmas music channel on Sirius. It looks like Sirius is taking a half-step in the right direction: 5 Days of Bing Crosby’s songs and 25 years of classic holiday shows from 1938-1962. Hosted by Bing’s wife Kathryn Crosby and daughter Mary Crosby, the channel will include shows such as “Christmas Sing with Bing,” “The Bing Crosby Show,” and “Philco Radio Time.”

Guests on include Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, The Andrews Sisters, Bob Hope, Jimmy Stewart, Peggy Lee, among others.

The channel will be on 119, replacing Sports Play by Play 4. If Sirius does this correctly, they will allocate the station the bandwidth of what a regular music channel has.

Hopefully this encourages Sirius to add a traditional Christmas radio channel next year, or at the very least import XM’s if the merger goes through.

Comments:

  1. I personally can't wait! I'm excited, and will probably have the radio set to record this entire broadcast.
  2. Wish this was a season long channel, not just a 5 day "micro channel" (to borrow the term from XM). But looking forward to it!
  3. Old Time Radio ch 118 has the shows going on now. I have been very impressed and good job Sirius.

Also about the music, Sirius has gotten better with their X-mas picks on ch 2. Im still looking for more traditional/religious type of X-mas tunes. Hopefully next year they will offer this.

Over all 100% better over last year but still room for improvement.
  4. This is great! I'm going to enjoy this programming.

    I agree about ch. 2....

last year I turned it off, this year im keeping it on.
  6. This is something I will most definitly tune into during the few days it will be on. Sounds like it will be a great channel, can't wait for it to start up. Hopefully next year sirius will offer something like this all season long.

Me too. 118 Radio Classics is good too.
  9. I'd really like to see a Jazz Christmas channel like Rhapsody's Cool Yule. Both XM and Sirius have the same crappy Christmas choices (traditional, classical, country, etc.)

And, StarLite, Channel 2, is doing quite a heck of a good job, too...
