Best Buy deals: Get a $50 Sirius gift card for only $55!

Via The Consumerist:

Best Buy is selling a $50 SIRIUS gift card for $55. Rather, that is the “national internet price” at BestBuy.com—Best Buy stores may sell the $50 gift cards for $50. Any idea what is going on here? We chatted with a surly Best Buy representative who offered one explanation.

According to the saleswoman, SIRIUS charges Best Buy $55 for the $50 gift card. This could be a clever SIRIUS ploy to drive customers to their own website while subjecting Best Buy to ridicule. Can anyone offer a better explanation?

It appears that Best Buy is trying to make an extra buck or five off of the gift cards. Reminds me of when XM used to sell their gift cards with a $5 surcharge.

Comments:

  1. What a great deal! Is there a limit on the number of cards I can buy at this special price?
  2. People have done lost their minds!
  3. But they add value with their low price delivery...and it says clearly that it normally ships within 1-2 weeks...where else can you get that level of service!?
  4. Ill sell you one for $54?
  5. I wouldnt be too shocked to see
    people selling these cards on
    ebay
  6. But these gift cards may still be out-selling the HD Radio Receivers.
  7. Awww, too bad. It's back DOWN to $50 now. That's a shame, that was such a great deal. Now I feel like if I order it is nothing special... $50 for $50... I mean where's the fun in that???
  8. Maybe with all the BB discounts and reward zone certificates, people were getting too many discounts since sirius is not selling them to BB at a discount it was costing BB Real $$ not Margin.
