Sirius Exceeds 8.3M Subscribers
NEW YORK, Jan 03, 2008 — SIRIUS Satellite Radio (Nasdaq: SIRI) today announced that it ended 2007 with 8,321,785 subscribers, up from the company’s 2006 ending subscriber base of 6,024,555. During 2007, SIRIUS added approximately 2.3 million net subscriber additions.
“SIRIUS’ subscriber base increased 38% in 2007, and our gross subscriber additions in 2007 were the highest in the history of satellite radio,” said Mel Karmazin, CEO for SIRIUS. “Our full year monthly subscriber self-pay churn rate was 1.6% and all-in churn was 2.2%, consistent with the low end of our guidance. Based upon preliminary financial data, we expect to report significantly greater positive free cash flow in the fourth quarter of 2007 than the company reported in the fourth quarter of 2006.”
SIRIUS plans to release full year 2007 financial results and 2008 guidance in February 2008.

Me: "I got satellite radio for my car"
Parents: "Why do you want to pay for something that's free?"
Me: "It's uncensored."
Parents: "FM is free."
Me: "No commercials."
Parents: "FM is free."
Me: "Lot more variety."
Parents: "FM is free."
Get my point? They would have never bought it on thier own cause FM was free. I am assuming a lot are like that. Even though FM sucks, it's free. by PACanesFan
Now 8.3 million. That is HUGE. That also probably doesn't count a lot of peopel that waited to activate after Christmas. by Vargas

We've come along way baby!
You know the weird thing Rich is that I love it as much today as I did when I first signed up for it. Just today I was listening to a couple of channels that I rarely listen too and I was like WOW, I haven't heard that in a long time. No way I could EVER settle for FM anymore. by DAB

Then later... Kenwood introduced the first PNP, called the H2A. We all thought we were in hog heaven. This thing was huge and you could fry eggs on it. But you could indeed dock it in the car, take it home or to the office and dock it. Still no boomboxes, but that would come in time, though they never made one for the H2A.
You guys don't know the good times you missed back then. I LOVED IT! You had to really want Sat Radio back then. Some of the light weights we get on the forum now days that complain about every little thing have no idea how terrible it was when these services first started. Granted, I perfer it as it is today, but for everything there is a beginning. by DAB
That thing looks like it could cause a power outage as soon as you turned it on!! LOL.
I thought the old Audiovox PNP 1 & 2 were bad. I've used both and I must say the SL2 is a dream compared to the units in the beginning. by SiriusSD
