Neil Diamond coming to SIRIUS

Exclusive SIRIUS channel to play 24/7 Neil Diamond music spanning his four-decade career

“Neil Diamond Radio” will premiere in advance of new Neil Diamond studio album “Home Before Dark”

SIRIUS announced today that legendary singer-songwriter Neil Diamond will host an exclusive music channel for two weeks starting tomorrow, May 2nd, at 12 noon ET on SIRIUS channel 3.

“Neil Diamond Radio” will feature Neil Diamond music 24/7, spanning four decades, including a preview of songs from Diamond’s highly anticipated new album, Home Before Dark, being released on May 6th.

The limited engagement channel will also feature stories and insights from Neil about the many classic songs that have defined his iconic career, as well as his new Rick Rubin-produced album.

“Neil Diamond is the quintessential songwriter, recording artist and performer with an endless catalog of memorable hits,” said Scott Greenstein, SIRIUS President of Entertainment and Sports. ”We are thrilled to launch ‘Neil Diamond Radio’ and offer SIRIUS subscribers the ultimate Neil Diamond listening experience.”

In addition to his own SIRIUS channel and new album release, Diamond will also return to concert stages this summer for a 37-city North American tour starting in July. For tour dates and more information about Diamond’s new album Home Before Dark go to www.neildiamond.com.

With a four-decade long career that has seen more than 125 million records sold worldwide, 36 Top 40 hits, a Grammy®, a Golden Globe® and thousands of sold-out shows all over the globe, Neil Diamond remains one of the most vital and innovative forces in modern music.

Diamond’s prolific body of work includes “You Don’t Bring Me Flowers” (the powerful duet with Barbra Streisand), “I Am, I Said” and “Cracklin’ Rosie,” as well as hits from his album and movie The Jazz Singer (“America,” “Love on the Rocks”) and from his acclaimed 2005 album 12 Songs. The album marked his first project with Rubin, which entered the Billboard Top 200 at No. 4 – marking Diamond’s highest-charting debut to date – and offered a stripped-down, emotionally honest and passionately compelling approach that continues on Home Before Dark.

Neil Diamond Radio continues SIRIUS’ tradition of creating exclusive artist branded channels dedicated to iconic figures at the top of their game. Recent limited engagement artist channels heard exclusively on SIRIUS include Rolling Stone Radio, Garth Brooks Radio, Radio R.E.M., Jay-Z Nation, Duran Duran’s Red Carpet Radio, among many others.

At this rate, we will end up with 68 single artist channels.

2 weeks of Neil Diamond music
  2. Whopee...yet another single-artist channel!

  5. I like Neil Diamond, but not to take over a channel like this. But at least it is limited to 2 weeks. Now if they did this, I mean the limiting to 2 weeks this might not be such a bad thing. But the take over of channel 10 for 6 months is just down right stupid.

I guess this is the cost of commercial free radio. Sirius needs alternative revenue streams. Neil Diamond has a new album out and is out on a major tour. I'm sure Sirius gets a nice chunk of change to create these channels as a promotion for the artist. Oh well.
  8. Yet they won't just create a rotating single artist station. Instead they just keep taking over other stations for 2 weeks to what seems like 2 years (yes Bruce, I'm talking to you).

  9. Let's write Mel and ask why they can't have single artist channel that rotates the featured artist, it sure doesn't do any good to contact a PD, they never reply. The Bridge needs to throw The Boss over the side asap!!

    6) ????

And yes, you can count me in the rotating artist channel. No reason to take over another channel. If there's not enough space in the "satellite" mode, then they make it online only.
  11. This is great, two weeks of Neil Diamond!

I am all for single artist channels, just don't take down exsisting channels to do this. How about one channel where they can put all this on, call it Payola Radio!

I've been suggesting the same thing for almost 2 years now. Apparently, it makes far too much sense.
  14. Sirius is so overdue for a SAC (Single Artist Channel).
  15. I like some Neil Diamond but a whole damn channel for two weeks is a bit much. Guess for two weeks I will not listen to Sirius Love. Before I used to listen to it at times. Now for two weeks I will ignore it. Also, I liked The Bridge but sadly Bruce Springsteen was put in its place. I am no great Bruce Springsteen fan. Can we please get rid of his channel and bring back The Bridge.

  23. they should have a channel where they play "Sweet Caroline" 24/7

    or is it Carolyne?

Can You Say your name for me
  24. listened to some of it today. the new album is great. same style as his last record. rick rubin is a genius. having said that, "forever in blue jeans" is a piece of dog poop. neil's stuff from the late 70's to the late 90's is so vile. complete shite.

Close only counts if you are playing horseshoes. Have you ever listened to Margaritaville it has a good bit of variety except when they do his live shows. Sinatra also has some variety, though they do play a lot of Frank. These are just not the same as having a single artist or group play nothing but their own music ONLY!

It is the music from the 70's through 80's that made Neil Diamond. Had it not been for those years, he probably wouldn't even exist today. I've always found artist that have had several decades of music that their style changes over time. Sometimes this is for the better and sometimes no so much so. I think time has appeared to be good to Neil Diamond, though I hardly found is earlier tunes vile.

Definitely his late 60's to early 70's music 'made' Neil Diamond. Hopefully the station goes heavy on the early stuff and the current stuff and skips most the stuff in between.

after 1973, neil's music ate wang up until his first record with rick rubin. everything in between was just crap. play that stuff in iraq and the war will be over in a day.

Everyone's entitled to his own opinion. I love Forever in Blue Jeans, America, Desiree and other stuff from that era. I like his earlier stuff too. Didn't know he did anything post 1985. Can't stand "You Don't Bring Me Flowers".

I listened to it last night. I liked it. Although the program director should pay attention to what he is playing. The live version of "I Am I Said" may have a different song id as the non-live "I Am I Said" but both should not be played over a span of 3 songs (athough I do like the song --- if that had been "You Don't Bring Me Flowers" I would have changed the channel).
  29. I love Some Velvet Morning...
  30. i never realized how many songs he had

Same here. I thought he stopped recording in the early 80s. He appearantly was quite busy in the 90s.

I thought that was by Lee Hazelwood (with Nancy Sinatra)? Or did Neil Diamond do a version of it also?

You're right. It was Lee Hazelwood. I was just trying to lighten up the mood...
