Well, I've been an XM user for 6 months now and even though I really like the service, the biggest reason I joined satellite radio was for the DANCE It was fine at first, but it simply has grown very stagnant and repetitious and I can't stand turning any of the few dance channels on.
Is there a place I can listen to the streams? I know on their site, Sirius has a listen for awhile, but 20 minutes isn't long enough. I listen to music all day, from work, to my car to at home and I want to hear long blocks of it to gauge my interest.
Also, I hear Sirius has possible problems with drop outs since they don't really have ground repeaters and those three sattelites paths sometimes leave gaps in coverage. Mind you, this is what I've heard and am hoping for some facts before I make the switch.
So, can you please help me out with a little information and for any of you frequent dance listeners, is there a channel, or channels that I can turn on and find 95% of the time some chest thumping, feet jumping music? I like High Energy Trance/Techno, DJ Mixes, etc.
Oh yea, when is that portable unit coming out that is like the Delphi SkyFi?
If you like Dance music, then you will fall in love with Sirius. The Beat, Planet Dance, The Rave, The Vortex and House Party offer everything from mainstream and retro dance, to club music, to house, to high-energy trance and electronica.
As for reception problems, the reason Sirius has so few repeaters (96 with more on the way), is the three high angle satellites provide such great coverage by themself. The differences between XM's geostationary two satellite network and Sirius' three ellipitical figure-eight satellites offer unique characteristics. Sirius definitely provides a wider coverage area that can reach into natural canyons and mountainous areas better than XM. Skyscrapers and hi-rise buildings are also less of a match for Sirius in urban areas.
I think you will find reception issues with both services, but this is very rare and limited to concrete overpasses, large trees over the roadway, etc.
Send me an email and I'm sure we can find a way for you to test the dance streams in longer duration.

Thanks for you time!

you can listen for more than 20 minutes. Once it is over, x it out and reopen it. You'll have another 20 minutes. Repeat as necessary.
I believe the Rave and house party have what you want, but someone correct me if I'm wrong.
The AudiovoxPNP is coming out sometime this summer. The Kenwood will be out this week.
Sirius has 3 satellites, and they shouldn't have dropouts when you have a clear view of the sky/clouds. They are generally even better than XM's b/c the higher position can mean less dropouts.
I found where you can listen to the streams via their website and you can sort of get around the limit by switching channels. However, I get a TON of buffering. I'd love to hear these things without interruptions
Yes, I am using broadband, the streams are clear now, was apparently some congestion before.
Been listening to the streams for awhile now.. I LOVE the Vortex and the Rave.. man, almsot every song has my head bobbing wishing I was at the club.. waiting for the weekend!
Well cripes, now I'm going to have to pay for them to move my current system to my fiancee's car and then find me a new Sirius setup.. and FINALLY I can get back to my Kenwood deck again
So far so good.. and thanks for the feedback thus far!
Ahh Weak, I appreciate the option to look into it. However, I don't want FM Modulation and will probably spring with a newer Kenwood receiver that has an MP3 player in it as well.
I'm goign to get the Kenwood MPC-555 for $249, the Kenwood Sirius Receiver for $29 and one of the Terk antennaes... looks like about $330 or so to get me going
You mean the Kenwood KDC-MP522? That is a sweet setup... I'd look around for the Free SIRIUS tuner... most have stopped doing it now, but there may still be a few around. You can't go wrong with the direct connect Kenwood SIRIUS setup. I have the MPV6022 and its SWEET!!!
I'm getting it done on Firday, so I can't wait I've been listening to this Delphi so long, I forgot what "real" direct sounded like I had to turn my radio a full 5 notches higher to get the same volume level.
You are going to flat out love it over that Skifi. I have never been impressed with the sound from the Skifi. Its a great little tuner, but it has its problems. Let us know how it goes once you get your setup installed. I am excited to hear what you think.
