Take it for what its worth, but all day today... and this evening the following streams were remarkably better:
Alt nation
Octane
and US1
Not perfect... but better. Anyone else notice this??? Much less repitition, and on all three streams I heard MULTIPLE songs that I have not heard since the beginning.
Any chance Sirius sent in some SJ's or PD's in on the weekend to clean things up in response... or am I "literally" hearing things???
There is a scientific theory that a thing, merely by being observed, may act differently. Then again, it may only be the desires of the observer influencing perception!
The Interpreter, I agree... that I why I was being careful not to over analyze.
On Us-1 I was hearing many hits from 2001 and 2002... and a few BRAND new tracks from 2003 songs that just hit the charts.
On alt nation I heard some different tracks from social D, and some other fun bands.
On Octane I heard less repitition and some different tracks from NIN and others that I have never heard on Sirius before.
Or I could have just got a Really lucky shoot of songs. Although my cousin(who also has hated the repitition, but knew nothing about this message board, also complimented Sirius on the music Sunday)
I DO NOT want to jump any guns... if this was an improvment, and not a coincidence... it better be long term.
I have noticed less repetition on Soundscapes. There is still repetition, and some songs are still nauseatingly repeated, but there is much new material being played, as well. So, I'm grateful for small favors!
Are they playing any ambient music yet? Is it still leaning toward John Tesh synthipop?

No better at all! In fact....here's my day's commute from Aug 4:
8:50 amish - I get to listen to Korn's new song on Octane, for probably the fiftieth time in just as many days
6:00 pmish - I get to listen to Korn's new song on Octane, for probably the fiftyfirst time in fifty days!
Please note there is not even a 12 hour difference in between that.
Now, come on. It's just a Korn song. Is the song that great that it deserves this kind of play?? Hell, even if it was great, the number of times i've heard it would have killed it for me. Do these bozos at Sirius realize that overexposure ruins music.
If I wasn't pissed off enough about having to sit in traffic for a half hour, hearing the same bullshit, commute after commute, on a "premium" music service i'm paying my hard earned cash for would have done it.
Some repetition during the day is necessary for new songs. Anyone disagree with this? Everyone has different listening habits, and the only way that everyone get's to hear the new stuff is if it's played at different times of the day. So why wouldn't they play a new song every day while it's current and popular? I think the adjustment that needs to be made is just recognize people are listening for more hours per day, and reduce the repetition cycle.
Today on the Rock, I listened for 4 or 5 hours during Pat St. Johns show, and it was excellent. It actually kept me listening. In the past when I tuned into the Rock, I would lose interest based upon them playing a song that was overplayed from previous listening. I didn't get the feeling I had heard many of the songs today recently so I would say it was a success. These older treasures were overplayed in their prime (for those of us old enough to remember), we don't need them overplayed again.
Alt nation and Octane were bother rather addictive, and have been playing a much deeper playlist. I flipped to Us-1 3 times, and heard two new songs and then the dreaded "Get busy" by sean paul came on... but i have noticed
HEaring a song twice a day is NOT considered too repetitive, especially for a stream like octane. When you hear those songs over 8 times a day on one stream(which was happening) we have something to complain about.
Two days of observations, and it looks like things are definatly changing.
thumbs up for Alt nation, US1 and Octane Sunday and monday.
I noticed alittle "betterness" in Big 80's Monday. Tad few songs I haven't heard yet On there in awhile besides the usual mix. Also new sweepers added.

Big 80's sounded better to me today also. I listened for maybe 3 hours.
Well, Rickets - very very occasionally you may hear some 'ambient' music, but mostly no. It's a mix of strange vocals and some good instrumentals, mixed with some John Tesh-style synchro-pop. It's a good mix, actually, but would be soooo much better without the repetition. And - as some others have suggested - would be great with a special show after 11 PM for those that want spacy, atmospheric music. Too much Yanni, too! (ugh)
