Many people have complained about XM and Sirius' decades channels. One is too repetitious, while the other is too eclectic, etc. One thing i noticed is that the reason may be because they are categorized differently. Sirius has them under Pop, while XM has them under decades. That probably explains why the channels aren't as similar as many people might guess them to be.
I have spent a great deal of time listening to both Sirius and XM decades channels and here is my take on the subject:
I think Sirius plays songs that may have charted in the top 25 where XM may dig a little deeper and play songs that charted anyplace on the top 40. It all depends on what you like. I grew up in the 70s and I probably had every 45 that ever charted so I think XM and Sirius both play a nice variety of hits and also those "forgotten oldies". I have occasionally listened to MusicChoice which is on our cable tv and some of those songs I have never heard.
Yes, XM seems to dig deeper ,especially in the 60s decade. Sirius does go deep in the Sirius Gold,Soul Revue and 70s stream, but really lacks in the 60s Vibration stream. Once in awhile I will hear a forgotten/lost oldie, but most are the BIG HITS ,the top ten smashes. They really need to go deeper to keep the sound fresh and not so repetitive. There are far too may repeats on stream 6 when they have a huge song library to utilize. They do a good job with the oldies on stream 5 and Soul Revue, someone on 6 needs to follow suit. :\

That's a good point. It's kinda true, Sirius plays pop hits from the decades and XM plays just about everything from the decades.

I think we all would agree that SIRIUS needs to go deeper in order to cut back on repeats, I know I would love to see that happen. This doesn't mean what we have isn't great... but like anything it could be better.

I disagree.
I like hearing music I know on 60s andf the other channels on Sirius.
I think that is one of Sirius' stregnths....
If they start playing a bunch of obscure stuff, I'm gone!
They should play songs that were played in those decades, not just the "monster"top 10 hits. This might require playing songs that charted lower in the top 40 ranks. They maybe dont have to be played as often as a#1 hit,but still need to be heard . Deeper is better, deeper doesnt necessarily mean obscure. If you play the same 500 "monster" hits of the 60s, the burn out factor sets in fast!! Thats why regular radio has a huge burn outfactor and customer dissatisfaction rate quite high. Limited playlist mean songs get repeated and listeners tune out. It doesnt mean they have to be "eclectic" but there is a happy medium somewhere and Sirius needs to find it.
Sirius is HITS.. so it should continue to play the HITS which. yes WILL get reptitive!
They shouldn't listen to everyone saying to expand... that isn't what Sirius is about!
They wouldn't have to expand the playlist significantly to satisfy most. They just need to throw a few bones out there where you stop and say to yourself, wow I haven't heard that in a long time, or I haven't heard that before but I like it. Sprinkle these nuggets throughout the listening day, and make it a bit less predictable is the key. There are lot's of good songs that never were released off of a CD, but still have that mass appeal.
