Default Sports Programming coming?

During the last conference call, didn't Sirius say something about sports programming being announced sometime soon? Maybe not, but I thought so. I'm wondering what that's about and what "soon" is. Getting some good sports programming would be great for Sirius.

I agree. I wish they had baseball play-by-play for key games on those channels. Maybe some college football or NFL games in the fall. I HATE the NBA so I won't be listening to that.

I agree with that. Have no interest in the NBA, but MLB or football (NCAA or NFL) would be good.

It sounds like Sirius is committed to adding more Live Sports to its lineup, and we can expect some new announcements soon.

Well, to be fair, if soon means soon in Sirius's marketing folks usual terms, we may be still be waiting for the announcements Christmas 2005!

I could surely do without the NBA. I personally think this brought in very few subscribers. In my circle of friends, no one that I know was even in the slightest bit interested in NBA. This just means they will keep those three freaking weather streams so they can rebroadcast this garbage.

Surely they can find other streams rebroadcast live sports events. As much as I hate having live sports events on some of the streams I listen to, I'll flip to different streams that don't share time with it. Or on the other hand if they decide to add other sporting events that I like, I'll listen to them.

Hockey season's just around the corner (Oct. 8th). How about a little live NHL action? Just make sure it's not Detroit or Colorado all the time like ESPN!

The content might be ahead of public awareness at this point. The NBA could potentially bring in subscribers, but how many people even know about Sirius to know that they offer the NBA? That's a bigger problem than the NBA not bringing in subs. I've followed the Warriors in the NBA for a season on the radio, and it has some appeal to me, but only if it attracts and holds subscribers. Exclusive content has a way of locking people in that want that programming. I subscribe to HBO primarily for boxing, and if they dropped that, I wouldn't have any problem dropping HBO.

So Sirius has the right idea to get exclusive content, but they need larger public awareness, and they need to enhance the existing exclusive programming. I expect the sports/talk and exclusive content to improve significantly in the next year given their $25M budget that is projected (increasing from $5M)

Football is really what they need, whether it be NFL or NCAA. Or both of course!! hehe
That would be sweet. I'm sure it would cost, but it'd be worth it in my opinion.

Have to agree, the NBA sucks goat tail. The only time I've ever listened to a basketball game was when my college team was in the championship gave for the Big 10. Even then, I could hardly stay focused / interested.

Now NHL... That's something worthwile (to me). If I could listen to almost any hockey game, I'd be in heaven.
