"So much of the programming on commercial radio stations has become bland beyond belief," says country music star Pam Tillis, who subscribes to Sirius, XM's competitor. "There's a whole wide world of music out there, and I want my radio to reflect it."
"I'm glad to have most of the trying-to-get-everything-set-up behind us so we can compete in the market place, not only against XM, but against traditional radio," says Sirius chief Joseph Clayton. "And that's the fun part."
Tillis says she loves to hear such variety and unknown artists.
In fact, she enjoys the service so much she's even invested a small amount in XM and Sirius.
"My boyfriend and I both bought stock in both of them," she says. "We just believe in it."

I find this part interesting because it's not the first time I have heard it. I spoke with a lady this week who just got sat radio. She was not, at all, the type to invest in stock, but she said "I should buy stock in this". Sat radio seems to inspire a belief that this has to be a big time thing some day. I think everyone who gets Sat Radio realizes what the rest of the world is missing. This gives them the feeling that they should cash in on it (via stock ownership) before the others wake up to it.
Has anyone else noticed this? A non-investor type inspired to consider or at least mention buying stock?
I agree that most people get excited about satellite radio and want to share with their friends, and buy some stock. My brother in law bought a bunch of shares after I introduced him to Sirius. He has two subscriptions too.
Spread the word, it's only a matter of time before it goes mainstream.
I drive 5.5 miles from home to work each day, and Monday I saw 5 sat radio antennas..I think that is a record in such a short stretch of city driving. Things are looking up...to the sky....
I first heard about Sat raido a few years ago and heard that it was really pricy... then about a year ago I saw all the saad for XM (I didnt have the cash then to buy, and a real shity truck) then I got a new Dodge truck and my business improved greatly. I then had a friend that told me about Sirius, I picked Sirius over MX only beacuse of NPR (at that time) and I have been hooked from then on. I am even more excited with OutQ! I then did some reasearch and put a good chunk of change into the stock (arround the 1.80 range) I truly think the company is going to go sky high. Partnerships with automakers, in Hertz rental cars, located in New York.... and dont forget "NO ADDS" on the music stations!
It's to the point now where EVERYONE has to take notice. XM is driving to its 1 millionth customer, and Sirius is making a big charge and clearly has momentum. These two companies are proving themselves to be what we all thought they would be: THE NEXT BIG THING.
