I've had it. Every time I try to get a more democratic (small d) music mix discussion started, the same couple of people always leap on me and accuse me of trying to mold the service in my own image (which wouldn't be bad, sort of a cross between Hard Attack and Special X).
This pretty much polarizes any subsequent discussion and adds way too much adrenaline and testosterone to the thread.
I have really been trying to be nice, but it obviously does no good with the fucking clique mentality around here.
ricketz,
I used to value your opinions, I still do in fact. Just not the disdainful negativity. We all want Sirius to be the best it can be, and this can be accomplished through reasoned level-headed discussion.
Do what you must, but you're always welcome to come back when you feel like it.
It ain't going to happen with these brain police waiting for me on the edge of town.
I don't have a chance to get any discussion going without being called a whiner who wants to reshape the service in my own image. I'm not going to continuously argue with the same paranoid xenophobic bunch.

Rickets, I respect your knowledge of music and some of your concerns. Being a teacher though, I see your approach as antagonistic at times. I know it may be for "shock" value or just to stimulate discussion. What you have to realize as I tell my pupils is, that you have to expect to recieve what you give out. If you come across intentionally or not as negative or arrogrant you will recieve the same back. Anyone who thinks they are the ulimate expert on anything, just isnt. It will always rub people the wrong way and one poke or jab gets one in response usually. If there were some way for you to say what you want to in a different manner or concern things wouldnt be as heated as they get on here with your posts. I am sure this is not the only place people respond to you as such if you present youself in a similar manner elsewhere. I suspect you like confrontation and debate or just feel you are in the know and others arent as enlightened as you. Whatever the case, if you are upset with the menatality here... it really does follow human nature. You get from life what you put into it...try some honey to attract people to your side rather than vinegar, or at least use oil with the vinegar, it makes for a nice salad dressing then.

That's right!! You attract more fly's with honey than with vinegar.

I'm trying to find one avenue of communications with this service I pay $27 a month to, so I can get one question answered by a human being in a responsible position.
I have never seen a business so completely insulated from its customers.

A comment to everyone.... I think its pretty clear we all agree that SIRIUS has isolated itself from its subscribers. That has been said many times, by others, in several threads. However, this does not mean one always, always have to be in the heart of stiring up controversy and negativity, just for the sake of doing so. When folks are interacting with one another there needs to at least be a minimum of give and take, along with respect. However, when one party is always right or at least thinks so and will never give in or budge an inch, then this creates this kind of problem. The way I see it, if one can't take what they dish out, then they need to rethink what they are dishing out, ortherwise maybe its best they do leave the forum. Things need to be done in a manner that is best for this community of Sirius subcribers and not one individual.
Sometimes it is best just to ignore it, but sometimes its best to confront it. I did what I felt was best for the forum, others will make a different choice and that is okay too. JM2C.
Rickets, first off, please don't use such language in a personal way.
Second, you seem to CONSTANTLY rehash topics that are being discussed. Don't make new threads. Instead, add to the ones out there, and keep them up to date and on top of the forum. Many threads on one topic become tiring for both regulars and new users to keep on on.
Third, I agree with many of the opinions here. I like you a lot, and you are a very important member of this site. You bring a lot of knowledge and stock sense. Still, you can't expect to be so negative all the time, and expect people not to react. We all LOVE Sirius. True, there are ways the service and company can improve. Still, constant negativity will be counteracted on here by the fans. You need to expect that. It's not that we hate you personally, or want to see you leave.
Last, and this applies to everyone, if you have a problem with a particular person, PLEASE PM THEM, and do not make it public. We're all adults here. Thanks!

rickets, for what it's worth, I've taken notice in the tone and content of many of your posts in the last few weeks, and have found many of them to be for the better. You often offer interesting information that many can use and have a helpful intent. Your opinions on the service, while not always respected, are still your right to say. Even if some disagree, that doesn't mean you are right or they are right. It's just a difference of opinion and in many cases there is no single right answer. As to starting so many threads on the same negative topics, I think that's a valid criticism. Perhaps you could start a more generic thread that could contain many of the posts such as "What I would Like to See Change".
What happened yesterday is that I heard "Dynamo Hum" for the 3rd time in one week. Frank Zappa (whom I knew) was one of the most important musical figures in the 20th century and, if civilization survives long enough, will eventually be acknowledged as such.
He put out 50 albums before he died. Some were great, some weren't. Nevertheless, his work is well liked by many people and he deserves better treatment than getting FOUR SONGS out of 400 played on an allegedly ''deeper'' AOR channel.
Having no one to call at the company, and being really tired of using the stupid Java postage stamp feedback thing, (which no one ever answers) I left a brief note from ME to the COMPANY asking that they get in touch with their audience.
Immediately I was pounced on by an apologist and personally attacked for trying to mold the company in my image. I don't see how asking the company to find out if their consultants are right (or blowing blue smoke up Clayton's skirt) by finding out what the listeners think (in real time) is in any way molding the company in my image.
I sincerely feel that the consultants that the company has hired are afraid that the audience will not express approval for what they are doing and that is why the telephones have not been hooked up.
I also feel that hiring a bunch of old Infinity employess will not guarantee any kind of success running a subscription service. Nowhere, on anyone's resume`, have I seen anything but crappy commercial radio experience, which is largely irrelevant here. Commercial radio is designed for 10 minutes of music, 10 minutes of commercials. 20 minutes total time spent listening.
Hopefully, someday, Sirius will realize that there are people who like to keep the radio on all day, (like the brain-dead do with their TVs). They will need to program maybe 1 station in each genre for us. LOC vs. 21 is a good example. LOC is for all-day, 21 is for commuters who listen just while driving. The Rock, since they play the same songs every day, is obviously for commuters. The Vault should be for people who live with their radios, as most of us old enough to remember the '70s album scene (before consultants decimated the playlists Die Abrams Die) did. We were fiercely loyal to one AOR station who wasn't afraid to play "San Berdino" or "Willie the Pimp'. We listened constantly at home, at work and yes, even in the car.
