SIRIUS RockThe top tracks from the legends of rock n' roll, along side Underground, Alternative and Metal styles...all served up with the deepest Blues and the roots of Reggae.
Just wondering if anyone else feels that they overplay a few bands on 1st Wave. I am thinking, specifically, of INXS, Depeche Mode, and The Alarm to name a few. I have the Audiovox PNP hooked up at work and I have heard each of these bands at least 3 times in the 5 hours I have been here.
Thoughts?
P.S. Add Big Audio Dynamite to that list, I am just hearing them for the FOURTH Time Today!

Each channel has their favorite bands and they will get more play than others. I'm not as familiar with 1st Wave though.
Yep, I've heard those bands quite a bit myself. They also wear out The Cars on occasion. It's one of my favorite stations though and I enjoy the repetition of The Smiths. I wouldn't mind band repetition of bands if they would play some deeper cuts perhaps; which would be easy if they had the whole CD with them, but they probably just have it on hard drive and its only selected songs from that album.
Definitely dig the Smiths, and they seem to play a good variety of their tunes. I wish they would play some deeper Cars cuts as well. How about Candy-O, or even Let's Go? They did have more than one album after all!

I've heard Candy-O, Let's Go, Dangerous Type. THey do play them, but they may have fell off of rotation. They will be back.
Yes, it seems like FirstWave has recently become the "hot alternative hits of the 80's" stream. A year ago it was great, lots of variety, deeper tracks. Now there's a lot more repeitiion and the tracks are much more shallow.
I subscribed because I wanted to hear things I haven't heard in years, not hear the same stuff over and over again. If I wanted that I'd listen to my local "hits of the 70s, 80s and 90s" station for free.
Yeah, I was thinking the same as you guys. I started a new post related to what you said. In that post I complained about not hearing ANY 10,000 Maniacs. Well since I added that post around this time yesterday, I have heard 10,000 Maniacs 4 times! All I was asking for was some recognition of the 10,000 Maniacs, not their entire catalogue.
I also agree with what a few of you said regarding the repetition of the Smiths. Perhaps I'm too partial since they are my favorite all time band, but I never can get enough of their music. I did once think the same about the Police, but I feel like First Wave sometimes wears them into the ground as well.
As a new Sirius subscriber, I sold my wife on satellite radio by letting her sample streams of 1st Wave. After two days of solid driving, (CA to Vegas,) if I hear any more David Bowie, I think I may slit my wrists. I think they have an outstanding variety otherwise.

It is good to hear Richard Blade and Freddie Snakeskin...Blade was a pioneer at the world famous KROQ and the playlist on first wave reflects that...the programming is also very much like early KDGE from Dallas, TX. Granted they do rotate INXS, The Clash and others frequently but, where else are you going to hear Social Distortion, Dramarama, THe Replacements, The Ramones, etc? First Wave is my first preset.
I agree with Siriuslyfolks- FirstWave is on my 1st preset also-
Richard Blade adds the flavor to the background for this type of music- along with his insight, personality, and trivia as well as the other SJ's, and the new bumpers they recently added to give the stream personality-and I am hearing the playlist with more artists like: Curiosity killed the cat (Which I requested and they played), The Smiths, Johnny hates Jazz, as well as favorites like Oingo Boingo, Pretenders, and many others
PS- Happy Holidays to all the Sirius posters out there!
Yes, I definitely agree on all the points -- Richard Blade and Freddie Snakeskin seem to add the right mix of personality to the blend, and it's good hearing the background to the music as something more than filler chatter.
However, the B-52's did more songs than Rock Lobster and Planet Claire, and there's say the whole 80's New Romantic movement that appears to be little more than a footnote to the station rather than the big impact that it had on New Wave's acceptance in the US. Where are Heaven 17? Spandau Ballet, Simple Minds, and countless others? When I moved here some a "competing satellite radio provider", I loved the station and I hoped it would do more along the lines of what (insert provider's) "80's Toe Jams" would provide. Although it has its moments, I do get somewhat annoyed with the repetition on the channel and wish they'd let loose a little....no, make that a LOT more than they do.
I'm agreeing with Sat Mike, there's too much talking between songs. I was thinking that when I got it it was going to be 90-95% music and maybe a tiny bit of talking. But instead of commercials, they're always plugging their own bs on the other streams. They should take a lesson from some of the satalite dish music streams where there is ZERO talking, we have the song name and artist right there on the reciever as well as the station and stream name right there flashing in front of us.
A call for requests every so often is alright - IF you're going to answer them. Otherwise just stick to the music. And stop with the shameless plugs for SIRIUS. I never once said to myself 'Boy what great FM station is this? Oh wait I'm listening to my SIRIUS radio"
I can't complain about the Depeche mode thing as they're one of my favorite bands. They get a little Smiths happy and Howard Jones happy on First Wave I notice sometimes.
