Default i have to ask.. is XM any better? :(

Ok so hi, i hate to say it but.., I have had sirius for about 3 weeks now. I must say im alittle disappointed. The main reason I got the service was for the dance channels, and how I've heard they blow XMs dance channels out of the water, but any how, back to my question. There are some things that im not happy with...
1. Repetitive (no matter what channel im listening to, its just like there repeating the same 6 hour show over and over, the last 3 days on 1st wave (22) I have heard most of the same songs on at the same time the next day... Is it always like this? And the beat (66) and the rave (62) are a major disappointment. I don't mean to sounds harsh, and there is allot I like about it.
2. Voice-tracking. I was at best buy today and they had an XM Delphi boombox going, I heard 2 things that you don't get on sirius, it was on "90s on 9" and the stream jocky talking to a caller.. I miss that the most!
3. Sirius Customer Service. There kinda lame. I had a question about XM so I sent them an e-mail with in 2 hours I got a real e-mail back, I have yet to get that on sirius other then some auto response.

Sorry I had to get that out.. So in the end, is it still better? yeah yeah, no commercials, but for better programing and less voice-tracking I think I would be able to live with it. Please don't kill me guys, I have not taken the Sirius sticker off the back window just yet Just wondering what others thought.
thanks

Its real simple. You have to take each service and lay it against what it is you want or whatever your preferences maybe. Then that is the service you go with or you may do like many others and just have both services. I for one have grown very weary of the repeats on SIRIUS. I am seriously considering buying XM equipment again. So, the bottom line is do whatever you think you need to in order for you to be the the most satisfied. Sure, this is a SIRIUS forum, so the generally feeling is that SIRIUS is the best. But is it to you, cause that is all that really matters, what I say or anyone else says is irrelevent.

Also, have you sent email and complained about the repeats and sent the email requesting the 90's channel be brought back, cause those are two things this forum is really pushing right now.

Your concerns are valid, and I think they play a big part in your overall satisfaction with either service.

In my opinion, repetition is way down from a few weeks ago. You may remember the Backstage community took part in a campaign to stop repetition. Sure there will be some, as Sirius maintains a style that focuses on mainstream hit streams and alongside a few deep tracks streams. It's all about balance and I think they're well on their way to achieving the perfect mix.

As for interactivity, it's no doubt that Sirius has some of the best names in radio and they are a little too inacessible to the Sirius listening audience. Most are available by email, but the process isn't always timely. I hope they can come up with a good plan to balance their duties between programming the streams and spending time connecting with their fans.

Customer Care is a love/hate relationship for many of Sirius' subscribers. They are mostly great people, yet the system is set up in a way that limits their ability to provide individual researched answers. We try to pick up where they leave off, by providing a whole spectrum of knowledge for you to indulge in. I think Customer Care gets the job done from a business perspective, but it lacks a passion and human oriented aspect.

I think you've made the right choice; the minor annoyances are definitely made up for by the excellent programming.

Jeff

Jeff: yeah, i hear ya. Im am however going to write a formal letter, just to say "Hey! im listening, this is what i think!" and just go over some things. I must say though, i hope some people from sirius read some of the stuff on SIRIUSbackstage! You guys should really get paid by them...

Its like Jeff said.... don't give up on the DOG. I honestly from my gut can tell you, I've had both. I gave up XM to go exclusively with SIRIUS. I LOVE THE DOG and I always will. So, when I say I am thinking on getting XM again, its not cause I am angry or planning to call the dog pound. No, I am staying the course, cause I know its going to get where we want it eventually. But sometimes, I'd like a little taste of obscure and eclectic and XM offers that for sure. I have a few channels, I like there, but not as many as I LOVE with the DOG.

I think at some point most of us will end up with both. Good Job on sending the email, because it going to be those type efforts that get SIRIUS to do what we want them too.

The Hype got you. Sure its O-K but not all that. Especially those Dance fans who think Sirius Dance is better yet they have five channels that aren't playing good new releases just the same old burnt out stuff. Especially The Beat. BPM Blows The Beat and Planet Dance away with Hit Dance music. Unless you enjoy The New Avril Levine Remix as Todays new dance, go ahead...

I have Both and if you can do it (its only 20 bucks.....) thats the best way to go.

I find I have adapted my listening to Sirius's programming style with good results. If I listen to the same stream day in and day out, of course it gets old and the repeats start to get to you. What I do is just give myself a break from one stream and tune into another. I always find good music on the streams I tune into which is one advantage of playing hit's based selections. I have expanded my listening tastes significantly since getting Sirius, in part because of repeats. The repeats are definitely improved and more balanced than they were just a few weeks ago. As a customer I don't expect it to be perfect, but I do expect it to evolve into a better and more refined service over time.

I can definitely sympathize - I was an early Sirius adopter, and really really loved it. But, the repetition has really gotten to me, not to mention the lame e-mail replies they send when you complain, or make a suggestion about the service. They're insulting! Now, I'm not a rock or dance listener, so my tastes are quite different than the majority of the posters here. I am a dedicated Soundscapes listener, and would have been a Jazz Cafe listener as well, if it were better. I recently had an opportunity to listen to XM in an Avis rental car, and Watercolors is a really wonderful channel. It is, in my opinion, far more diverse than Jazz Cafe, and I really miss it. Also, Audiovisions, while not nearly as diverse as Soundscapes, has a definite place in my heart. So, the bottom line is - I'll probably end up with both, which will be the best of both worlds.

I've noticed Audiovisions is playing less ambient and more ''John Tesh'' lately. That's a darn shame. I hate John Tesh.

I have both services as of a few days ago and am in the process of comparing them now. So far I like Sirius better for the music I like 5o's 60's & 70's.

Hey Rickets - John Tesh isn't saying very nice things about YOU, either.

Not only is John Tesh real, but he is looking for you. Said something about kicking your butt. Or something like that...

Hi all, new sirius subscriber
I have had xm for about 9 months and I think the audio quality is slightly better with xm, probably not much to get worked up about.
I like the dj's on xm but xm too is getting repetative on some channels 90's on 9 comes to mind mostly. Xm's customer service has been good, what I liked the most was when your driving you can call in request a song directly to the dj and they will get it on the air within a couple of songs, if they cant they will often times ask when you are going to be listening and they will play it then. Email them and they email you back everytime. The couple of times I had to call in to sirius I got one really cool guy, the other time I got a women who wasnt to interested in helping. Otherwise I think they two companys are pretty comparable, just depends on what YOU like.
