Let's put it this way... I heard the Scorpions on Octane on the drive home today. The other day it was Iron Maiden and Pantera...

On the same token, I've noticed a LOT of 90's rock on AltNation in the last couple days. Lots of very good but very not-alternative songs. I'm glad to see someone playing them though... although it SHOULD be Octane, not AltNation.

Octane just played Jimi Hendrix. I am not a regular listener of Octane but I don't think Hendrix fits.

Today I was treated to The Scorpions, Ozzy, Black Sabbath, and Hendrix...on Octane....

WTF?!

Octane hardly touches the 1990s as it is on that station, and now they've completely jumped a freaking decade to the 80s and earlier!!

Someone really has it out for 90s music on Sirius...geez....

The Octane channel description:

"The home of high-powered modern rock. The biggest hits and the biggest names from the mid-'90s to today. "

I don't see where it says anything about "80s shit bands" or "classic 70s rock."

If any additions to Octane's playlist were made, those additions should have been modern rock bands from the 90s, as per the fucking channel description.

Yes, I said 'fucking.' Clearly I'm annoyed with this.

But on a higher note, Alt Nation seems to be playing more 90s tunes.

Still, why is Sirius fucking around with its listeners? Either devote Octane's playlist to playing "The biggest names from the mid-90s to today" ...or at least stick with the same fucking decade...

If I want Ozzy or whatever crap they're throwing on octane, I'll turn to the classic rock or 80s jock rock channel.

I say again: Sirius, WTF?!?!

I've just fired off several emails to customer service and to some Octane jockeys, basically consisting of "Should't Octane be focusing on refining its deficient 90s playlist as it is...not worrying about adding random bands from other decades?"

I don't expect a response though, since I never once received a response to the complaints I made regarding the repitition.

But that's pretty sick...we listeners complain about the repitition on Octane, so they fix the repitition by adding overplayed bands from other stations to the playlist.

I made a post about this the other day, it was Led Zepplin on Octane, and Green Day on Alt Nation.

This is my letter:
"Hello, I was wondering why Octane and Alt Nation are playing Led Zepplin and The Scorpions, and Green Day, respectively. I don't see how Led Zepplin or The Scorpions fits into Octane's Modern Rock format, especially when The Rock is dedicated to this kind of music. Also I don't see how Green Day would be played on Alt Nation, when they should be on Octane. While, as a listener, I do appreciate the variety, please keep it within the genre of the stream, not having variety for the sake of having variety. Thank you for your time, and consideration."

Justin"

They are killing Octane!! What the hell is going on over there? I heard Tesla and Scorpions today -- they were playing Scorpions at the same time a different Scorpions song was playing on Big Rock! Two Guns 'n' Roses songs within two hours on Octane today as well... so much for "repetition_off"...

Sirius needs to get that stuff off Octane and put it back on Big Rock where it belongs. Tesla & Scorpions are not modern rock by any stretch of the imagination.

Well, it's kind of obvious that changes are coming down to Octane and Alt Nation. Someone on the inside told me a month or so ago that the new suits have other ideas for O, AN, LOC. I do not know what they are but I was kinda expecting something sooner or later.

My response:
"Dear Justin,

Thank you for contacting SIRIUS with your input into the playlists of
Octane and Alt Nation. Some of the songs that you feel may be misplaced
on these streams may come from listener requests but we appreciate
comments and suggestions for our stream jockeys. Your e-mail has been
delivered to the stream jockeys on Octane and Alt Nation. As you may
know, they are very busy designing SIRIUS streams 20 and 21, and may not
be able to reply to your e-mail in a timely manner. You may receive a
subsequent response from one of the stream jockeys when scheduling
permits. We regret any disappointment that you are experiencing.

Your feedback regarding our programming is extremely important to us.
We are dedicated to providing the most variety and best listening
experience available anywhere.

Sincerely,

Jeanne
SIRIUS Customer Care Agent"

Guys, I'd hate to say it, but Octane is really the only thing keeping me from going to XM. If Sirius doesn't make Octane what it was, I may have to jump ship, and I'm sure I'm not alone.

You know I tell people this all the time. If one stream is all that is keeping you on XM or SIRIUS. There just isn't anything else worth listening to. Then by all means. Cancel and move on, do whatever you need to in order to be satifisified. Then if the other service doesn't do it for you. You can always go back to CD's and MP3's, along with FM/AM.

I don't mean to sound disrepectful in regards to your preferences in music, but all you can do is match it to the service that can satisfy it the best.

Personally, I don't understand these narrow preferences, but that is just me. I like a wide variety of genre's and honestly I am very happy with SIRIUS overall. Both these services could use some improving. I've been subscribed now for almost a year. I've seen things get worse, then better, then worse again and now slightly improving again. That is just the nature of the beast. No one is going to be totally 100% satisfied with either of these services, all the time. Sat Radio has turned me on to a lot of new music that I now enjoy a lot. I just can't understand this thing that nothing else is worth listening too. But one has to do, what one has to do. Just be happy whatever it maybe.

Listener requests?

Doubtful.

More likely, it was the bands themselves or their management trying to jump start flagging careers.

I heard Motley Crue on Octane. Threw up my breakfast burrito.

It is quite obvious that no one at Sirius knows anything about Rock and Roll, (except maybe Jose).

Those new Infinity people (St. John et, al) are embarrassingly lame and the lamosity seems to be spreading.

Im beginning to think of the Sirius streams as national, commercial free FM stations. I mean, most of the DJs are from FM, their music consultant is an FM guy; it should be no surprise to anyone that the streams are starting to sound like FM. I wonder how long it will be before they start having contests on the streams where the prizes are provided by various record companies...... Im starting to research what XM is like so I don't get hosed like I did with sirius when/if I make the switch (needless to say, im soon cancelling my service, the terrestial radio people are too firmly entrenched for me to expect any changes).

If they mess with Left of Center or start playing Whiner Rock on Hard Attack, I will trash this company every chance I get.

These pricks know nothing about music. Period.

They know nothing about non-commercial radio. Period.

"From madam wong’s to starwood
To the whiskey on the strip
You can hear the crashing, blasting strum
Of bands that come to be real hip
And get a record contract
From a talent scout some day
They’ll sell their ass, their cocks and balls
They’ll take the check ’n’ walk away
If they’re lucky they’ll get famous
For a week or two perhaps
They’ll buy some ugly clothes to wear
And hope the business don’t collapse
Before some stupid magazine
Decides they’re really good
They’re a tinsel town rebellion band
From downtown hollywood

Tinsel town rebellion, tinsel town rebellion band
It’s a little bitty tinsel town rebellion
A tinsel town rebellion band

They used to play all kinds of stuff
And some of it was nice
Some of it was musical
But then they took some guy’s advice
To get a record deal, he said,
They would have to be more punk
Forget their chops and play real dumb
Or else they would be sunk
So off they go to s.i.r. to learn some stupid riffs
And practice all their poses
In between their powder sniffs

Chop a line now, snort it up now
And when they think they’ve got it
They launch a new career
Who gives a fuck if what they play
Is somewhat insincere

Tinsel town rebellion, tinsel town rebellion band
A tinsel town rebellion,
A tinsel town rebellion band
Did you know that in tinsel town the people down there
Think that substance is a bore
And if your new wave group looks good
They’ll hurry on back for more
Of leather groups and plastic groups
And groups that look real queer
The tinsel town aficionados
Come to see and not to hear
But then again this system works
As perfect as a dream
It works for all of those record company pricks
Who come to skim the cream
From the cesspools of excitement
Where jim morrison once stood
It’s the tinsel town rebellion
From downtown hollywood

Is everybody happy?
Oh never mind!
No problem!"
