Default Alt Nation

Alt Nation (Stream 21) is starting to be lame, predicatable, and sound just like any given FM alternative station in any given market.

Bring back Jerry Rubino. The station was MUCH better under his control.

(I realize that LeftofCenter is playing *some* (NOT ALL) of the music dropped by AltNation... but in my opinion AltNation (Rubino era) was simply the absolute best modern rock format I've heard in years.)

Sirius is hiring too many "radio people" who can't think for the future. Steve Blatter, Walter Sabo, and Will Pendarvis are perfect examples of this. (I love Will Pendarvis as a jock, but I seriously doubt he knows who Sahara Hotnights are and I doubt he'd ever attend a club show with The Ataris.) Moreover, AltNation (the way it was) was pretty much the reason I was starting to favor Sirius over XM. While XM's Ethel still needs a lot of help and is not as good as AltNation (even since they RUINED IT), the dismissal of Jerry Rubino (and Don Kaye, among others) and the subsequent music changes makes me favor XM again.

If you don't believe me about the format changes, check these playlists as posted on Mediabase:

I know how you feel. AltNation was one of my favorite streams on Sirius and the stream that kept me off of XM. The music is definatly taken a turn for the worse. Altnation was unlike any other station/stream/channel and that was all due to Jerry. If XM is smart they will pick him up.
Can someone now tell me what are the differences between an Active Rock stream like Octane and Alt Nation? It seems to me that there are few differences with the exception that Octane will play an occasional old song from Black Sabbath and some new Metalica. I even check out the active rock charts and alternative charts and see many of the same songs and artists on both. While I am it here, what is the difference also between modern rock and alternative rock. Weren't they the same thing 6 or 7 years ago?

Thanks

Blink

Well Octane gets the harder stuff, and AltNation gets the softer stuff. As a fan of Octane, I love AltNation's new format, and to be honest, I think it'd have much more mainstream acceptance, but on the other hand, just like I was mad that they changed Octane a bit, you have every right to be mad about AltNation. I reccomend looking in the Octane thread for more info about these two streams.

Hit = mediocre

They really need to off (with extreme prejudice) all the commercial radio people and hire some NCE people with fresh ideas.

No one is going to pay $13 a month for the same old crap they get on ''free'' radio. Sirius needs to get programmers who can get $200 a year voluntarily from listeners for 2 hours a week of Jump Blues or whatever. The only place where the payoff is that rich is the left end of the FM dial.

Commercial radio sucks, even with no commercials.

I'm actually enjoying AltNation's new format... it's just that there isn't much 'Alt' left about it. heh.

Basically, from what I'm hearing, AltNation is just like XM-47 Ethel, and Octane is like XM-48 SquiZZ?

Ugh.

Basically.

A word that I was taught in my professional education for my trade should basically be avoided at all costs.

I guess basically means sort of.

On another topic, it's kind of like "With all due respect..." (You can be sure that what comes next is a cutting, ugly remark showing no respect whatsoever!) Or, if you is from the south, same thing, Ugly Comment, followed by...."bless his/her heart" As in, "He really tries but he is a trashy piece of poop, bless his heart!"

Basically, I should be sorry then. But with all due respect, I was right and you were wrong as usual.

Basically, Octane and Altnation are pretty much sort of like Ethel and Squizz.

However, if you're a chronic listener to both channels on both streams, there is a world of difference. Each service has its own feel for that type of music.

Two things.

1) Where did you get those playlists?

and

2) Did you notice the number of repeats in those playlists?? The songs that come up more than once are the same songs I hear every time I'm in the car. That's one of the first big differences between XM's Ethel and Squizz and Sirius' Octane and Altnation, incase you were wondering.

To rid the world of every single copy of "Fat Lip".
