Default Really digging AltNation

I realized two weeks ago that I haven't given AltNation much of a listen, so I set it on my first bank of presets.

I was shocked to hear stuff I really liked...Sublime, Fatboy Slim, Beastie Boys, Taking Back Sunday plus many others.

I'm not as up to date on rock as the other genres, but has anyone else enjoyed the new style?

I think it's much more approachable, but still a nice mix of the breaking stuff.

It is much more hit-based now. I don't know if I like it or hate it.

I must say though that I miss hearing The Vines' cover of OutKasts Ms. Jackson. Now that sounded spooky.

That must be why I like it.

The rock purists must hate it. I think we can please both parties, right?

alt nation rocks now... I cant believe peple are complaing. Left of center takes over where alt nation stops. its a perfect mix. Both stations sounded identical, and were both rather bland... now they are both nothing short of amazing. The rock on alt nation belongs there, and LOC pleases the true alt rock fan. People assume that Alt nation must mean "obscure rock" there is tons of amazing obscure rock on LOC...

both stations blow me away now, and FINALLY seem to have a format that works. I could see people complaing if they were both "hit based" but LOC is anything but hit based... but it still grabs your attention for hours at a time.

Thanks weezer, I'm glad my thoughts mirror yours.

I've listened more this week than ever and it's definitely one of my new favs.

Great job Sirius Rock Team!

I love Alt Nation it's far superior to Ethel on XM. Technically if you think about Alternative there should be no "hits" at all because Alternative is all about being a rebel and not caring if your popular or not.

But Alt Nation is one of my top 5 channels. I also enjoy Octane.

Alt Nation sounds to me like someone copied the playlist of an FM alternative station, threw in a few extra songs and put the whole thing on "repeat" over and over again. I guess they have yet to find that gentle balance between being a K-Rock/Edge/Zone etc. clone and being an off-the-deep-end, cutting-edge-to-the-point-of-bleeding alternative station... either that, or they're not looking for that balance.

Word to the wise for whoever's programming Alt Nation now: Garbage had more than one hit. I must've heard "Only Happy When It Rains" about a dozen times in the past two weeks, and it's getting tired. There's tons of other catalog hits and artists you could be playing.

I'll respectfully disagree...

...but it just goes to show that you really can't rely on one artist and especially one song to cover an entire era (meaning that you can't say "hey, we play catalog -- look, we played Garbage!") when not everyone may like the band or the song.

I gotta say, I'm a huge fan of Alt Nation, and I think the old stuff Octane plays is down to an amount that is respectable/understandable for the stream. I'm a happy guy right now.

..and considering how unhappy you were for a while, SIRIUS must be doing something right.

Glad you are happy, I am...

I'm gonna have to start listening to both streams. I love the idea of one stream covering the hits and another diving a bit deeper.

I have been a new listener to Alt Nation over the last two weeks and I have to say I like it... I dont know what it sounded like before, but I know I've flipped to it before and havent stopped... Now i stop and listen for a few songs! I like that they play the alt-hits and not so big stuff...

BY the way where am i going to find 70's Punk (Sex Pistols & Ramones, etc)? Please dont say the 70's channel cuz if i hear Skynyrd or the Allmans (or any other 70's Southern Rock bands) , etc one more time in my life, I think Im gonna move into a monastery!
