Default An AOR show for The Vault?

I've been thinking, with the idea for ambient music on Soundscapes at night, how about an AOR at night feature on The Vault. It would play tracks that would make The Vault seem like the Rock in comparison. It would go from 11p or midnight-7a EST. I think it would be another plus over XM. Pat St. John has had 10 years experience at an AOR statino, so he should know how to run one(he doesn't have to be the DJ though).

Ooh, a slogan: lights_OFF bongs [sarcasm]for tobacco use only[/sarcasm]_ON

Not too sure what you're proposing, but I think the Vault has been getting too mainstream recently. Veering over the the blues-rock (which already has decent mainstream exposure) and away from the jazz and fusion rock that so many like, but has so little exposure.

I mean, I haven't heard King Crimson or Frank Zappa in weeks. And Mahavishnu Orchestra or John Mayall NEVER. I did hear some Miles last week! That was nice.

And who in the programming department is hung up on the Black Crowes??? Jeez...

I also have heard a slightly more mainstream feel, which I don't like. AOR stands for Album Oriented Rock, where there is the equal chance they would play any song on the album, not just songs(or even albums!) that charted.

I'm with you there. Zappa in particular suffers in that way. Since songs like Illinois Enema Bandit (and the entire second side of Absolutely Free!) never got airplay, it seems like they don't exist for the streams that the genre fits.

Two features of proto-FM that I'd like to see practiced are 1) the whole blessed album, and 2) the theme hour. In the latter the jock chooses a theme like 'hotels' or 'junkies' or 'young girls' and dredges out stuff that you probably wouldn't hear otherwise, but is quite interesting in terms of the theme.

The Theme Hour is tough to program. It's entirely possible that it vanished along with certain recreational drugs...

Well I got one of my wishes last night. Tull's Thick as a Brick - the whole blessed thing! on The Vault.

Wife and I sat in the car for at least 15 minutes after getting home to hear the end of it.

Thank you Sirius!

Is there a list for "The Vault" anywhere that is similar to the Deep Tracks list that XM provides?

Amen to that! It ought to just be a regularly scheduled feature on The Vault. Weeknights at 10ET, for instance.
