Sirius up and XMSR down. The street likes the news. A 3 year exclusive should bring in some more subs. This is another advantage Sirius has. With 10 more talk streams than XM, they have more room to add stuff like this.
Just last month I told them they needed to get the NHL. I got the usual canned response. "We regret to inform you that we currently do not have an agreement with the NHL to stream live games. However, we do offer a variety of sport streams. ESPN Radio, stream 120, features top sports news, and up-to-the-minute scores for each night?s action across the country. There is also ESPNews, stream 121, the nation's only sport?s news network. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause."
I'm glad to it. I thought we'd never see the NHL on Sirius. A friend of mine who is (was?) leaning heavily toward XM loves hockey, this will probably swing him over to Sirius.
And while there are many nay-sayers on XMFan who say that Sirius made a bad choice because the NHL is only good in the playoffs, they forgot that Sirius now has most if not all of the NHL playoffs(after first round, they will definitely have all). XMers can settle for what they can get on ESPN.
manco: where did you see that this is a 3 year exclusive?
manco: where did you see that this is a 3 year exclusive?
Good question. I just went back and read all of the news and I didn't see anything about a 3 year deal. I'll keep my eyes open for it as I'm sure I wrote it because I read it somewhere. Hopefully it wasn't from the Yahoo message board
I remember reading in one of the releases about an exclusive 3-yr deal.
I don't see it at the moment either. Maybe it was in the Briefing.com update. I don't know how to read it since it's at 7:15 am and the page only goes back to 8:39 am. Dont see how to see the rest.
But I do remember seeing it somewhere.
07:14 ET Sirius Satellite inks deal with NHL to air games (SIRI) 1.85: The Wall Street Journal reports the co has made an exclusive three-year deal to carry National Hockey League games. This deal is similar to one that SIRI made last season with the National Basketball Association.
Remember: Sirius having the regular NHL isn't much, but remember that this pays off when they become the only Sat radio service to have every single playoff game.
