Has anyone noticed the changes to the 70s as of the this AM? I don't care for it at all. This was my favorite station since it was all 70s pop. Now it sounds like every bad Classic Rock/Arrow/Classic Hits stations out there on the FM dial. I wish they would return to the pop lean.
Does anyone else like the new changes? I vote pop! It is under the Pop category, not rock after all!
I've noticed a more rock leaning for the last week or so. I also wish it was slightly more pop. Oh well, I still have The Pulse/Alt Nation/The Trend for for music.
I liked the KC and the Sunshine Band, Hues Corp, Main Ingredient,Spinners,Stylistics, Leo Sayer, Marvin Gaye, Al Green, Abba,Three Dog Night etc.that they played before the current changes.
Now it is all Billy Joel, Eagles, Crosby Still Nash and Young, and the stuff that I don't like. All of the current songs would still be OK if they didn't just strip all of the great 70s pop songs that I loved.
SIRIUS PLEASE BRING BACK THE POP!!!!!!

A VERY UNHAPPY SUBCRIBER!!!!
I listened for around 45 Minutes, and enjoyed every minute with a good mix. Every song they played I remember hearing on a pop music FM channel in the 70's. Here's what they played.
Billy Joel - Big Shot
Guess Who - Share the Land
The Tramps - Disco Inferno
Elton John - Bennie and the Jets
Bob Seger - Old Time Rock and Roll
Chairman of the Board - Give me a little more time
Cat Stevens - Peace Train
Hot Chocoate - You Sexy Thing
Daryl Hall And John Oats - Rich Girl
The Hollies - The Air That I Breathe
Chicago - Saturday In the Park
I cant say that Hot Chocolate and The Trampps aren't pop.
I did hear that hour too. If you keep listening though you will see what I am saying. It is very rocky now. Not bad on a song for song basis, all of the songs do belong on the 70s station, but they do not have nearly as much great pop as they had before. They do still have a few pop songs but the lean is very rock no longer Top40. The Top40 stuff was what made the channel so cool. Now it is all the really safe burned out stuff that you hear on every stale Classic Hits/Clasic Rock/Arrow format in the country. None of the cool Top40 stuff that you haven't heard in 30 years.
I like the variety. I personally don't mind any of the songs, pop, rock whatever that was played in the 70's. Most FM channels in the 70's played all of it anyway. The list of songs I posted to me all sound like pop. Listen to the Rock to see a big difference since they play lot's of 70's rock. Are you a fan of the 70's music because you grew up with it?
Also you might like Starlight if you like Pop. They play their share of 70's pop music and don't usually play any "Rock".
I dont mind any of the songs listed above. The 70s is my favorite genre of music, but I really hadnt had a chance to listen to the 70s this week because I have been sampling other channels. I do notice that occasionally a certain "blend" of music is played -- sometimes its more rock sounding, sometimes more mellow, etc. But the way I look at it is if it was popular during the 70s, it is fine by me.
I dont mind any of the songs above either. I am just saying that they cut back on all of the cool pop which was the reason I listened. This stuff is goodfiller but isn'tthe stuff that me saying turn it up I love thi song. This is all just good solid background safe music.
It's a 70's channel. If it was popular, it should be played. If they don't play all the popular music then it's a limited playlist they have to work with and it would tend to get old to the frequent listeners. That's my opinion. I think what you are calling "Rock" really crossed over to the "Pop" channels in the 70's.
Manco,
I am not disagreeing with you. All of what they are playing DOES belong on a 70s station but they are missing the essence of the 70s pop scene. They are only playing the "safe" stuff: Eagles, Billy Joel, heart, Steely Dan, Fleetwood Mac etc. That stuff is all good, but it is one dimensional. It is also very male focused. When they play rhythm it is disco Inferno, Grease or some really safe stuff. There is no pop depth to the channel anymore ie Foxy, Billy Ocean, KC and Sunshine Band. This station sounds like the FM Classic Hits or Arrow format instead of a hits based pop channel reflective of the decade. They were even playing the cheesy songs that are so cool to hear every once in a while.
I have heard Billy Ocean and KC & Sunshine Band on 70's. Not sure about Foxy. I would recommend sending in requests for a few specific songs to see what happens. I've done this before and sometimes I get an email saying they played it or will play it at a certain day/hour. Also they have to have song rotation, or it sounds like the same set all the time. So maybe the songs you refer to fell off of rotation but will be back later.
