SIRIUS SportsIf you love the thrill of the game, SIRIUS offers the best in sports action streamed directly to your radio, no matter where you go. Keep up with the latest live broadcasts of the NBA and every NFL regular season game.
A lot of people out there are saying that the NFL deal is a bad move, because no one will get satellite radio to listen to football. That's not true, but I think what's being missed is there are a lot of people who are going to get satellite regardless, and the NFL can be a major deciding point when you're looking at Sirius vs. XM. My wife was going to buy XM for me for Christmas because our local radio is so lousy. Then she went into Circuit City and the saleman told her how Sirius had great sports, including the NFL and NBA. So while the NFL package didn't sell her on satellite radio, it did sell her on Sirius.
Very true, it wll be one more thing that seperated Sirius and XM in buyers and big box salespeople.

The NFL is not meant to draw in tons of subs looking for just that. It is one of many bennies. Not many people will go with car X over car Y for a $10/month increase in lease payments b/c it has side curtain airbags. But when you include 10-way power seats instead of 4, 6 speaker stereo system instead of 4, and automatic climate control, it looks like a better offer.
When a customer walks to the SDARS display, s/he may not have much of an idea of what's on these services, other than one's $10, one's $13, and that they have 100 channels. If they find out that Sirius offers commercial-free music, that may or may not sway them to get it. Same with NPR. But if they hear that they can get almost any NBA/NHL/NFL game, it seals the deal.
Granted, I already have Sirius, but if I didn't, once the NFL deal was announced, I would have gone out to buy one. The main reason I chose Sirius over XM (aside from the commercials) was the inclusion of NPR. But while that was a factor, if XM had NFL, I would have gone that way. I live in Orange, CA and hardly ever get Lions or Chargers games, so the ability to listen to them would be great.
Combine the NFL offering with the NBA & NHL offering and without a doubt, Sirius is the leader in sports, which is a huge portion of the market share out there I would believe.

No doubt having all the sports will add subs. (Hopefully MLB too.) I just hope that Sirius can find a way not to alienate all their subs by short circuiting other programming for sports. Hopefully in the next week when the "finetuning" is announced, they will reduce some of unnecessary channels...why 4 weather channels, 3 tv news channels, 2 etwn, E, espn news...none of these make sense to me.
I'm hoping they can upgrade their talk offerings (read: Phil Hendrie), add Sporting News Radio, lose some of the excess baggage and add a piano/guitar music channel. If all these things were to happen...good bye XM accounts...
I can see getting rid of some of the news and sports channels - like the ones that are just TV audio (give me a break) - but I kind of like the customized weather for my region.
One thing that have done is put games on the regional weather channels and leave the national, so if you really want weather, you can get it.
Some of us drive 12 hours at a time and LOVE being able to get CNBC, Fox and CNN Headline News. What's YOUR favorite channel? We'll diss it!
Oh, wait, it was the regional weather channels, we already have!
I like having all three, when something big happens, I like to be able to listen to all three.

Count me in for liking the TV Feeds, especially Fox News.
Back to the original topic, I agree that the NFL deal is a factor, but not the primary reason people get it. It's like yo don't buy cable for a single channel, you buy it for all the channels. One channel may tip you one way or the other on packages or service providers.

I agree, now I like all three, but if you take away Fox News I will be pissed

Okay here's my story. I was initially leaning towards getting XM but when Sirius got the NFL I decided to wait and see if they could pick up MLB too. If Sirius gets a similar deal to the NFL one I will be buying a system to pick up my baseball team games. Unfortunately I am a Cardinals fan living in Chicago so if I can hear all the Cards games through Sirius woo woo for me and Sirius.
I admit I listened to CNN Headline News this morning on the way into work - then they did a story on the feud between Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera - which reminded me why I don't listen to CNN, and so I switched over to BBC.
Getting the NFL is the single largest factor why I will not switch. I spend most of my time driving on Sundays, the only day I do outbound work, and being able to listen to the game is a big advantage. More then that, TV play by play is incredibly inferior to what you hear on the radio. So inferior, it's not even funny. I will listen to Boomer and others call a game on the radio while watching the game, I prefer the radio Sunday Night and Monday Night game call over the TV that I will watch the game on TV (now) and pick up the game on Radio to hear the commentary.
The fact that SIRIUS picked up the NFL encouraged me to buy a unit for the house as well as the car, because if I can listen to SIRIUS quality on the call instead of AM Radio, I will take it every time.
Yep, if they can land MLB, that will be a great add-on as well For a sports nut, I'm in heaven
