Just got a chance to tune into the draft show on sirius 124. Man, that is how a draft show should sound. Steve Cohen, Phil Simms and Gil Brandt sounds great! Just wonderful. Congrats to all.
What's funny is that Sirius is talking about exclusive draft coverage, but the draft was being covered for at least the first round on ESPN Radio on XM. I got in my brother's car today and the draft was on...I guess maybe Sirius is exclusively covering the ENTIRE draft, but it was still kind of odd.
I tuned into ESPN Radio and they weren't covering the draft while Sirius was. Maybe they were only covering hightlights or news, but Sirius was covering the draft live, and without commercials when I was listening. Very good coverage!
I listened to pretty much the whole first draft while I was working outside. I was impressed with how they kept everything flowing even during the downtimes. They hit a home run with having the local beat reporters on the show. If they continue to do that on the NFL channel it will definitely be worth tuning into.
I did get tired of Simms ranting here and there, was a bit disappointed that they didn't discuss Miami's 6 first round picks - which broke a 35yr record, and it seemed that they only talked about Miami when they were talking about how great a player did against them. Oh well I guess I should take off my range and Green glasses.....

I've seen this mentioned and while it is true ESPN radio had coverage of the draft, I believe Sirius is saying it has exclusive coverage because they have their own show. No one else got the exact coverage that Sirius provided.
I really enjoyed the Sirius NFL Draft presentation. They did a terrific job for 6 hours. Steve Cohen is a real gem - I have listened to him on WFAN in NYC. Phil Simms is a terrific commentator who brought a lot of insight to understanding the draft.
The other sports channels like ESPN Radio, Sporting News Radio, and Fox Sports Radio all covered the draft and tried to get in-depth coverage. Sirius, since it is developing a special NFL Radio stream, just sounded better, more in-depth, and didn't have Mel Kiper or Michael Irvin.

Look, anyone can do a draft coverage show. It doesn't require the NFL's licensing. The draft coverage is not like play-by-play...you aren't describing teams' movements up and down the field. It's a "sports news event". The AP provides names of draft picks, and I'm pretty sure even the podium feed from Paul Tagliabue is available to just about any network which wants it.
Sirius is touting its coverage because it's a direct result of the deal with the NFL. That doesn't stop ESPN, Sporting News Radio, Fox Sports Radio or anyone else from weaving together a show based on the draft information or audio they get.
Our local radio sports talker, which doesn't have the local NFL team rights, did a draft show from a local sports bar. They used draft audio from ESPN Radio (they're an affiliate) and did their own interviews/analysis and coverage from the team's draft HQ.
I'm not downing Sirius. I believe they called it exclusive because they are covering the entire draft, whereas ESPN Radio covered only the first round live. I just found it kinda funny to hear the NFL draft going on in my brother's car (which has XM) after I'd been telling him for a while that Sirius had exclusive coverage.
Sirius or anyone can call it exclusive. They had Pill Simms and Gil Brandt that was exclusive for Sirius. I thought they did a excellent job and had many interviews with players as they were just announced.
