Default ALL OLD SKOOL LABOR DAY WEEKEND!

Heart & Soul 51 will offer an all old skool weekend 9/4-9/6 (Labor Day weekend)!! I am ready for this, as it brings back memories of "The Express", a Sirius channel that was all old skool for the first year Sirius came on. One can only wish and hope for the past to repeat!

Traditionally, the holiday weekend programming has been great at Sirius. I have no doubt that this will be no exception.

Yes, funk /r&b old skool jams from mid 70s thru early 90s. They have done this before, and was quite good. Over the past they have had special guest deejays such as George Clinton and Stephanie Mills. D Train Williams and Fonzie are also regular deejays who are in the recording business and add insight and a special feel to this music.

Crazy question, What exactly is funk?

Is it what they were playing over July 4th on Heart & Soul? I've probably heard it but I didn't know that it was "funk"

Last week, when I was listening Fozie (Thompson, I think), said he had an album. I didn't know that. I like him as a DJ. He actually appears more then 3 or 4 times an hour and he always talks about info pertaining to the next song. Some of the streams, you would be shocked had dj's cause they barely appear.

Funk is basically a style of R&B music along the type of George Clinton, Parliament, Funkadelic, Cameo, Gap Band, Ohio Players, Zapp, Bootsie Collins, Confunkshun, Dazz Band, Rick James, and more-but old skool includes not only the funk, but the slo jamz from back in da day too. Basically its post Motown, pre rap hip hop of the last decade. (although rap and hip hop have been around since late 70s).

Ah ok, thanks.

The artist names makes its more clearer for me. This is what the Express used to play before it was canned?

I think of Tower of Power as funk. I usually describe them as playing soul/funk.
