As you can tell I am new to this forum so if this posting is out of place here
I'm sorry. I have had XM for three years now and I have been looking into adding Sirius. I really enjoy this forum .
I found some interesting statistics from Arbitron on Howard:
Clear Channel Stations:
WTKS FM Orlando w/Howard 2nd place w/o Howard 8th place
WXDX FM Pittsburgh w/Howard 3rd place w/o Howard 11th place
WNVE FM Rochester NY w/Howard 6th place w/o Howard 14th place
KIOZ FM San Diego w/Howard 5th place w/o Howard 20th place
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Infinity Stations picking up Howard :
WOCL FM Orlando Before Howard 17th place with Howard 1st place
KPLN FM San Diego Before Howard 17th place with Howard 4th place
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I see some people are sweating the May sweeps .
Excellent forum. Keep up the good work.

Robin had a Clear Channel item in her newscast last week. She said that since dropping Howard, Clear Channel stock has decreased in value by 54%!

amazing lets see if people come to Sirius for him though. It's estimated that Howard has somewhere between 10 and 18 million listners. It is also estimated that 1/3 of his listeners will follow him to Sirius. That equates to between 3 and 6 million listeners will follow him to Sirius. Can't wait, although I haven't quite figured out how I'm going to listen at work, but I have an idea.

Font color: Stern is going to revolutionize Satellite Radio. XM will feel a major impact when Stern starts broacasting here in January.
It will be worth the $12.95/mo just for Howard.

I am one of them. (Although, it is not the only reason I got Sirius, but it was a MAJOR one)

It's from an old clip passed around the Internet where a clerk opened up the floor board while she was filing. You can still get it at ebaum's world etc . . . .
BTW.... Does anyone know if Stern can do commercials for SIRIUS or does he have to wait till his contract is up?

BTW.... Does anyone know if Stern can do commercials for SIRIUS or does he have to wait till his contract is up?I highly doubt that Infinity Broadcasting would allow any advertising from Sirius. And I don't think he wants to do anything that would jepordize his current contract. I haven't heard any satellite radio commercials on his show in quite some time.

Stern Down In 5 of 7 Markets
April 26, 2005
By Paul Heine
The Winter 2005 Arbitron isn’t one Howard Stern is likely to boast about – at least as far as his top three markets go. The syndicated morning man’s 12+ ratings are down in New York, Los Angeles and Chicago, according to Arbitron ratings released April 25.
On his Infinity-owned WXRK (K-Rock) New York flagship, Stern fell from a first place 7.0 to a second place 6.4 in the Winter, unseated by "El Vacilón de la Mañana" on Spanish Broadcasting System’s WSKQ (La Mega).
In Los Angeles, Stern slid from a fourth place tie in the Fall (4.6) to finish sixth in the Winter (3.9) on Infinity FM Talk KLSX. And Stern managed only a 2.2 on Infinity FM Talk WCKG Chicago, ranked 16th. That’s down from a 3.0 in the Fall, when he tied for 12th place.
Stern is also down in Detroit (3.2-2.7 on Infinity’s WKRK) and in San Diego (4.9-3.2 on Infinity’s KPLN).
However, in Stern’s Philadelphia stronghold, he gained share (8.7-9.0) on Infinity’s WYSP, remaining in second place. And Stern improved his Boston market position on Infinity’s WBCN, from third in the Fall (5.4) to second in the Winter (6.6).

speaking of advertising, opie and anthony play a clip of Stern doing an XM commercial, that used to air on krock last year. Stern can't get them to stop playing it, XM owns the clip. It's so funny.

It is quite funny, let me tell you why. Stern is the biggest cry baby out there. When he doesn't get his way, he will cry to the management till he does get his way. XM owns the content, so no matter how much of a cry baby he is, the clip will continue to be played. It is so irritating to him, that it is quite funny indeed.
So, go roll your eyes elsewhere smart ass.

My point is that you had a good point (though I disagree), then you tainted it with a childish comment directed at me. I retaliated with a childish comment. Let your arguments stand or fall on their own, don't denigrate the conversation with lame swipes at members of this community.
My original comment was not directed at you, but at XM's playing of what is in your opinion a funny clip. I've never heard it, but I doubt it is the knee slapper you claimed it to be. Whatever the case, I have no intention of flaming you directly, I hope you feel the same.

ok, I took your comment as an attack on me. Your sarcasm and eye rolling is what I was responding to.
Just to clarify, the clip itself isn't the funny thing here. The fact that they are playing an ad by stern pushing XM. The funny thing is that they play it to annoy stern, and believe me, it annoys that crap out of him.
ThePope

I'm sure it does. I still don't find it that funny, but I like Stern. I'm sure it is funnier to people who don't like him much.

People getting paid to do advertisements is funny? To me the clip is more of an reminder of how XM really dropped the ball. I was first an XM subscriber but after Stern joined Sirius I had to pick up a sub and if Sirius were to ever get a channel like fungus I would now drop XM in a heartbeat. In my opinion XM had a chance to bury Sirius but now they are in for a dog fight.

getting people to do advertisements is not funny, that isn't what I said. The funniness of whole thing is that, opie and anthony are playing a clip of howard stern, Mr. Sirius, doing an XM commercial. Stern is all about Sirius now, so, a commercial of him shilling for XM is funny. It's a live read he did last year when XM was an advertiser on Sterns show. It is funny because, it is Stern's voice, but he can't prevent it from being played on XM, his hands are tied.
And, I wouldn't worry about XM, they will be just fine Jack_Mehoffer.

That clip is funny..but then again not..lol.
After Howard told everyone about his deal with Sirius he was talking about it all the time, giving away radios left and right. He no longer does that, im sure he was told to stop and probably threatened to be fined or some crap. He doesn't even say the word Sirius anymore, makes a noise when they talk about it. I wish Sirius would buy the rest of his contract so he can get here sooner!

Look at numbers before the Stern deal and after. Then compare those to XM at the same time and you'll see.

I have looked at the numbers.... xm went from about 90% of the sat. rad. market to around 70% (thinking xm would have stayed at 90% is just silly)....... again how did they have a chance to bury them.. specifically?

Yeah, and maybe they should sell more shares to raise the money to do this buyout. This stock is way to diluted as it is, please, no more spending money.
Besides, sirius isn't ready to supply the amount of radios they would need if stern went live on sirius next week. They will need the next 7 months to be ready for the big day.

I'm no fan of Clear Channel, but I would like to see her documentation.
I just don't think the decrease has been that big.
