Yes I am one of those buying Sirius solely because of Stern. Although, having tried the internet listening I absolutely love some of these stations.
On the internet listening, I notice some stations do not work. ESPN Radio for example among many others. Its seems pretty much only the basic music stations work. Is this because I am a trial subscriber? Will these stations work on the internet once I am a regular subsriber? Or do some stations require the hardware receivers?
Lastly, any news on what time of day Howard will air? Will his show only air once or perhaps will I hopefully be able to catch it at different times of the day on a loop or something?
Thanks for any help!

I believe that the online service you get during the trial is the same as the service you get when you subscribe. Currently they only stream the music channels and a handfull of select talk programs.
I don't think anyone really knows for sure what Howard's air schedule will be, but I've heard him say a couple of times that it will still start at 6am and end whenever, just like now. One difference is that it will be live monday through thursday, with presumably some sort of best-of on friday. He's also mentioned that there will be at least two airings of the show - the live one starting at 6am Eastern time, and a delayed one to start at 6am Pacific time, maybe on two different channels. But as with all Sirius info that Howard talks about on the air, you can't expect 100% accuracy as it seems that sometimes he's misinformed (like when he talked about them having 3+ million subscribers) and things seem to be in a constant state of change. We really won't know for sure until shortly before the show starts on January 9.
If you're digging the online trial, you're going to LOVE Sirius when you get it in your car and/or home! I got it in my car a few weeks after Howard made the announcement last year and it's really a great service. Having Howard on board next year makes it unbeatable!

Right now Howard 100 and 101 are simulcasting Howard 100 News--it's 10/19/05 about 8pm eastern time.
I logged in at sirius.com and there's not even an option to try to listen to these two channels online, so I doubt it will be available online in the future.
Anyway, in case you missed it here's what they have on:
Things I am hearing:
1. Jackie under sirious negotiations to come back! Do they mean just for a reunion show or to replace Artie???
2. The first part of Bubba's interview with Beth-O
3. King of all Blacks screaming like an idiot at Angry Black
4. Wendy the Retard's mother says she wants a portable Sirius radio for the hotel room so she doesn't have to hang around Sirius all day, and despite being trapped in the Chevy Malibu for 2 days Wendy is doing fine.
5. Gary the Retard says he prefers Jackie over Artie because Jackie is "more funnier". (I personnaly disagree, even though I miss the old greedy pothead).
Gonna go listen more now

The trial content is identical to the full subscriber content. Only Sirius-produced content is available to stream online. A good measure is... if the original content provider streams the content through their own site, then you will be able to stream it online through Sirius. As you can see, there aren't many, ESPN Radio included.
No one knows about Howard streaming online, I believe everything that people are saying is just hearsay. Concerning the schedule, I believe he will still do a morning show in the east, and repeat it for the west.
And Sirius WILL have 3mil subs by year's end.

Thanks all for the responses. I primarily will be listening at home and I don't want to miss a second of the Stern show. So I was hoping to get real lucky and put off purchasing the receiver, just stream it all online, and record it on my PC if I was going to miss the Stern show due to timing or something.
Kind of sounds like I get to do none of that and thats OK. After moving out of a Stern market a couple years ago, I'll gladly pay mucho dinero to get Stern back.

Well there are still a few months to go and with $50 receivers now, no one should have an excuse not to buy one immediately! :D

I am already shopping, hearing that Howard has content on the air now and I'm still w/o receiver is driving me crazy. Just having trouble deciding which one to buy. Probably end up with the S50 if it ends up as good as it seems before the end of the year, but I need something now to tide me over.

What kind of install are you looking to do? Car, home? SBS members are a wealth of information that can steer you towards the right product for your needs and offer advice on installing it, as well.

It will mainly be used for home listening, but I want the ability to listen in the car occassionally as well. Pretty much looking at the Sportster Replay and Starmate Replays.
Seems the Starmate is smaller and offers artist seek, while the Sportster has a better home docking station....decisions decisions.... :)
Any input from users of those systems or perhaps ones I'm over looking would be great!

I went with the sportster replay....although id love to have artist seek i needed a system that can move when i move,Car,home,Boombox with one pull...with the starmate you have to disconnect plugs and there is no boombox...
as far as the artist seek feature, theres only a couple bands i want to hear,Queen being one of them..so i just i just use the Song seek and hear just about every queen song they play....
it`s good enough for now.

what makes it a "Sportster" - does it have all kinds of sports logos on it or special buttons tuned just to sports shows? How is it more "sports' related than any other radio? I like your idea of ease of undocking and docking with this one, but I like the much smaller size of the Starmate.

i believe it was the first to give you-
Sirius GameZone - select for favorite teams from the NFL, NBA, NHL and college sports
Sirius GameAlert - Prompts you when your favorite teams are on, and when the scores change
However the starmate replay has this feature now.

I got the Starmate Replay and HOLY CRAP I am one happy addicted customer! I also went with the original Starmate since Radio Shack is selling it for $49! If you aren't doing the math at home, with the $30 rebate, that is a total of $19! For a very nice satellite tuner. But the sexy small size and artist seek sold me on the Replay. The artist seek is very nice and the replay is already becoming more useful than I ever thought it would!
Thanks to everyone for their help and advice!

if you have the entertainment book theres a 10.00 off coupon for RS...
that brings the starmate down to 39.00-30.00 rebate=9;)

This was posted in a thread further down but if you bring up your online player and chose talk and the Alex Bennett show or Lynn Samuels you will get the Howard 100 feed.

Stay away from the StarMate if you plan on going from car to home/office to car. The mounting cradle does have electronics in it so you will need to unplug & re-insert three wires each and every time you switch from car to home/office (power,antenna,audio-out).
My JVC unit was stolen recently and I went cheap to replace it with the Starmate. Returned it a day later and went to Best Buy for a Sportser.
Also, you won't really need the replay feature if you plan on listening to mostly music channels... there's enough repetition there so you'll never miss a note. Talk & Howard, on the other hand, I can see wanting to "pause" the stream as you move from car to home/office & vice versa.

I got the Starmate Replay and LOVE it. If I wear out the wires plugging and unplugging so be it. :) I'll gladly pay for another home or car kit or even another SR if I had to. I love this thing that much.
I agree the replay feature is great for talk radio, I use it all the time to pause the shows when I have to leave my office. But its also great for music if you want to capture some of this stuff as your own MP3s. I hear a song, decide I like it, get the PC ready to record, rewind and cue it up and I'm ready to go.
Pausing to move the unit from home to car or whereever is not a feasible example of replay though. Once the unit loses power your pause and the entire stored stream is gone. I assume Sportster Replay is not battery operated. :) Now the S50, that is a total different story.
Will there be better deals out, to welcome Howard? Or should I jump on this $30 MIR going on now?

You do realize that's illegal, right? :wtf!:

No its not, not when its for personal use. Have you ever heard of TIVO, or VCRs, or even Sirius's very own S50. RIAA wishes it were illegal and might someday put enough money in enough people's pockets to someday make it illegal or just strongarm Sirius and XM to pay them more money and raise our rates...but its not illegal.
Its only illegal if I were to sell or profit or share my recordings.
