S50 Firmware Update NOW Available (Discussion Here) II
SIRIUS has released an update to the My Sirius Studio program. You can download the entire program or just update your current installation. You can do this by going to SIRIUS's S50 Support page or by using the Software Update feature in the MSS program. This upgrade should bring you to Version 1.0.1.4886.
The firmware update should be available to you by updating to the newest version of MSS and then "Check for Updates" using MSS.
We are going to keep the firmware updates discussion in this thread.
I'm definitely using the home dock for all recordings. In fact, I posted earlier today that maybe there is a defect in the dock (rather than the radio) that is causing the intermittant shutdowns.
Today I programmed recordings on channel 100 from 12:30-2:30pm and then again from 2:30-3:30 and everything went perfectly. Most times, however, my S50 shuts down (except for this morning at 6 am when it NEVER woke up in the first place) between recordings if I don't leave a 5 minute gap.
The randomness of this problem is what bugs me the most. I'll continue experimenting - the flakiness of this thing likely won't hit me till I really want consistent recordings starting Jan9!
I assume this is just random. If you could come up with any kind of pattern of this happening. Especially something that could be duplicated. We could then report it to SIRIUS. I think it still needs to be reported as a random event. It shouldn't ever shut your tuner down regardless.
Anybody ever notice that when you are playing a recording and hold down the pause button on the S50 you get a message asking if you want to delete the recording? If you hold down the pause on the car dock(haven't tried on home dock yet) you don't get this message.
Seems like a bit of an inconsistency doesn't it? Should this be reported as a bug?
Speaking of recording, it would sure be nice if they displayed the date and timestamp on the recording as it's being played back. If you play back-to-back recording from the same channel it's kinda hard to differentiate the different dates/times. Anybody else find this an issue?

Yep, happened again this morning. Programmed recording was successful (including the wake up) from 6-8 am, and then both dock and radio shut down when the 8-10 am recording was to start. When I turned the system back on, the love symbol was on but no recording was actually being done. Most times (I can't remember them all exactly, it has happened so often) I have to unplug the dock to get the system back up.
Now I'm doing short (just so I can get more samples in a reasonable amount of time), back-to-back recordings and 8 or 10 in a row have been perfect. Believe me, I'm trying to find a pattern here. Next, I'll go back to the longer recordings.
I believe this is an unidentified bug in the S50. I recorded 2 hour blocks from 6am - 4pm on Friday and for some reason the 2pm recording didn't happen(just like it skipped it). Also, I did a LOVE recording from 6pm to 8pm and when I came back to the unit it was turned off.
There are definitely some reliability issues when it comes to recording. I don't believe it's your dock. I plan on recording Stern in January so I am a bit concerned about this also. If this happens with Stern then my frustration factor will jump 1000%. Right now is a no biggie.
I for one appreciate your testing on this. I will be very curious if you find some sort of pattern. I would say from my observations that the likelihood of you finding a pattern is probably low because this seems completely random. In the meantime, more power to ya!
Firmware Update Can Screw Up The Current Date in the S50
After I did the firmware update I noticed that me S50 now thinks the date is 11/22/05. The correct date is 12/21/05. The only reason this even matters is so I can set the S50 to record programs at specific times on specific dates.
I hooked the S50 up to my PC and did a Restore To Factory Settings from the PC interface. I also put the S50 in the car dock and did a Reset Channels and a Reset Defaults. Nothing corrected the date.
So I called tech support. It is not possible for the user (me) to set the date on an S50. All we can set is the time zone. The tech support rep said sometimes when you do a firmware update, the date in the S50 gets set to the date of the firmware file. The rep said the only way to fix it was for him to send me a "reactivation" via the satellite. He said the activation queue was very busy this close to Xmas, so I would have to wait 30 minutes for the reactivation to reach my S50. It is now an hour later and my S50 still says 11/22/05. The time is correct and has remained correct throughout this issue. My date USED to be correct (before I did the firmware upgrade) and I have successfully made many scheduled recordings in the past.
Two questions:
1. Has anyone else encountered this date problem and if so, what was the fix?
2. To see what date is currently set in my S50 I to go to Content Management / Schedule Recordings / New Program, and the date and time presented as the default date and time are the current date and time set in the S50. Am I correct that this is the ONLY way to see what date is currently set in an S50?

Now Tech Support says my S50 is bad and I have to call Crutchfield and exchange for a new one! What a joke! It worked fine for weeks until I did the firmware upgrade!
I've had my S50 for nearly a month now and had no problems whatsoever. I've followed the discussions and FAQ's on the board, updated the software/firmware and it's been running great. I haven't (thankfully) had any of the problems that others have been having and any bugs I've had were fixed in the update.
But now, when I use the S50 in the car dock and when I push the "play/pause" buttong during live use, I get the "NO PSRAM, IR NOT DETECTED" error message.
But everything else works fine. I'm still able to do everything else while in the car dock, just not pause live radio. It doesn't seem like any other function is affected. It is able to pause in in the home dock though.
Is the 3 fingered reset going to fix this, or is Sirius going to tell me to return it to Best Buy (which they are all sold out) to get a new car dock?
I'm going to call Tech Support now, just thought you all might have some ideas.

Is this the original update or is there a new update?

I have the same issue also. Damned if I will send mine back because of it. Maybe Sirius can get it right in the next firmware update.

Thanks for posting this, Bill. I checked mine. Same issue. Date is 11/22/05.
Can you other guys on the board please quickly check yours and report back? Seems odd that something like this could be chalked up to defective hardware, doesn't it??
