S50 (General Discussion) Questions and Comments III
This area will be for general discussion of the S50, including the firmware update. We now have an area to dicuss the remote control issues. The home dock issues. Everything will be discussed in this area.
I have only hooked the S50 up to my home dock and I activated this morning - now you have to understand that not only am I new to the S50 but I am new to Sirius and satellite radio. So far it's doing everything I hoped it would do - it recorded My Channels properly - I just came back from a long run and the recording were perfect (except for that 2 second fade out at the end). Getting it hooked up in the car and Howard Stern will only add to the fulfillment so far. I will say that the sound would be enhanced if it had an equalizer.
One question: I know if you are listening live and want to love a song (as a favorite) then you have to wait the two or three minutes for the song to record - but I thought I had read that when you are in portable mode and listening to a My Channel and you hit the love button that the song transfers over immediately to your favorites?

That is correct. While listening to my channels if you hold down the “love” record button for a couple seconds it will save the song. You will see a heart in the lower right hand part of the screen for about 30 seconds then it will go away. I would guess it takes about 30 seconds to move the song.

But it still takes the length of the song to completely transfer over???
Don't know if this has been discussed yet, but I have a solution (I'm sure there are others) to one of the major flaws with the S50, that it has no alarm clock function.
For 15 years I've had my clock radio set so I could wake up to the sounds of the Howard Stern show. I just assumed that a clock radio feature would be built into the S50 (come on now, it's just such a basic feature and so many people buying the S50 are Stern fans who are used to setting their alarms to Howard). I was wrong.
One possible solution that I wanted to bring up is to buy an FM transmitter (here's one http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProdu...duct_ID=166893
there are many out there), hook it up to the S50, set the S50 to start recording Howard at 6:00AM, then set a clock radio tuned to the transmitter station to go off at whatever time you have to wake up.

I assume it only takes the 30 seconds to move the entire song. I assume when the heart is on the display that it is recording and when its off it is not.

That is why I wanted to check with someone who has done it - I am currently moving songs from My Channels to My Songs and it's taking the full length of the song - I thought that since it was already saved that moving it over would take no more than a few seconds (or I would think it should take no more than a few seconds).
I'm wondering if anyone has had this problem.
I gave my wife her S50 Xmas present early (she was really happy) and she asked me to set it up so that she could immediately start putting mp3s on it. No matter what I did, I couldn't get My Sirius Studio to recognize her S50. Mine was recognized when I attached it with the USB cable, but hers wouldn't. I tried many things, rebooted my PC, shut down and then power up, even went into Device Manager and removed the device before reattaching it. The only way I was able to set it up was to uninstall MSS and reinstall from scratch. Once I installed the original CD it now sees both devices. This is a Windows XP Pro system SP2.
Just wanted to see if anyone else had this issue or is it just my luck?
I just thought it was odd that it would recognize mine and not hers...
If you "LOVE" live it stays on through the whole song. If you hit "LOVE" when its from what of your already recorded "My Sirius Channels" it does take it about 1 minute or so to copy it from one area of the memory card to the other, it then also deletes it once it is finished playing from the "My Sirius Channel" area.
The key thing to remember is that the memory is segmented into areas. "My Sirius Channels", "My Sirius Songs", "My Sirius Shows", "My Playlist" (which is your mp3's or wma's.
I know this has been discussed b/f, but I just tried it for the first time and my S50 shuts down when I try to schedule back to back recordings. I think the only solution that works is to leave a 5 minute space between scheduled recordings. Are there any other solutions to this problem? I guess I can live with missing 5 minutes of Stern for every 2 hours recorded, but you'd think someone over at Sirius would have ironed out this problem b/f shipping these units.

I think I've seen this on the forum before where the Media Player was not recognized. It appears to happen more with the home kit though than just hooking it via the USB cable included in the original packaging.
You are right it is odd, but computers.. Who can figure them out? I've had all sort of issue like that with USB devices with Windows XP Home and Pro.
I just with they made software that supported Macintoch, because I'd be using my Mac if I could.

That is the only solution that I've seen that appears to work 100% of the time. We have reported this issue to SIRIUS as a problem and I am hopeful it will be addressed in the next firmware update.
