Default I need a vehicle mount for my S50 please help

So I am on my second S50 and I finally felt safe to install it permantly into my vehicle. So I removed the red 3M backing and stuck it onto my car where I wanted it placed. I did so AFTER cleaning it very well with the alcohol swab and allowing it to dry. However the sticky end was not sticky. I was wondering if anyone did not need that piece for their S50 and would be willing to sell it too me for a resonable price. You can PM me if you are interested. I called Sirius and asked them if they could ship me a new piece or get me in contact with someone who did. I will only tell you that the guy in customer support barely even knew what the S50 was. He told me to put vasoline on the edges and it should stick. I asked the guy if he even knew what the S50 was because that certainly would not work. I told him he was refering to a totally different vehicle mount for a totally different model.

If anyone could help me out, I would appreciate it. CS reponse was to return the item to Best Buy and get a new one...I just laughed and said you have got to be kidding me.

Thanks everyone...happy holidays

Try some of that 3M heavy duty, two sided tape. I've used it before on my XM and it works great. You can usually find that tape at Wal-Mart, in the hardware dept. It's white and thick tape.

Good luck.

okay, please brief me why we need to use that alcohol stuff to get it to stick. is there a science behind that? and does the 3M stuff leave any marks on your car?

Ok. I bought my S50 and hooked it up today. The alcohol swab is to clean the space so it removes anything like Armor All or any other polish or dirt that would prevent the tape from sticking. I did have to rip out my older Visor unit and that tape left a mark. But I scrapped most of it off no problem and put a little lighter fluid to eat off the rest. No permanent marks.

Go ahead and rip it off.

I would not recomend lighter fluid to remove that since that will eat into the plastic and not only ruin it, but dull the shine. I would stick to alcohol based cleaners, Rubbing alcohol or your favorite bottle of Vodka. I had a Kenwood H2A and that has that popped off easily and didn't leave a mark...I will try the heavy duty double sided tape. Thanks...I guess I just expected it to work out of the box...what was I thinking :\

Oooohhh, they make one for Semi Truck. I should try one. If I ever get an S50 or MyFi, I'll try one out. That way I could just leave one in my car and the other in my truck.

Thanks MM.

Oh, BTW

I don't know. I've never had to move it since I put it there.

I whole-heartedly agree - get one of these mounts for your car. They are well worth it - it's a professional look and feel and no messing around with sticky tape. Plus they should work with all future radios - I used them with my XM radios before I switched to Sirius this month.

Yes, the 3M heavy duty double sided tape will work like a charm. I don't know what Sirius was thinking when used such a weak adhesive on the car mount.

And yes, it is important to clean the area because if the plastic is treated with an Armor All type cleaner, the adhesive will not stick as well. The cleaning wipe will disolve most of the Armor All (or whatever shine product you use).

I will warn you though, the 3M haevy duty double sided tape is like super glue. I had a hell of a time trying to get it off of my fingers let alone trying to pry large amounts from my car's interior. Make sure you know exactly where you want the mount before you stick it somewhere. It will be a bitch to get off!
