S50 (General Discussion) Questions and Comments IV
This area will be for general discussion of the S50, including the firmware update. We now have an area to dicuss the remote control issues. The home dock issues. Everything will be discussed in this area.
I also want to thank so many of you that have posted the issues you are having and worked with us to find solutions. Rest assured we are working with SIRIUS on these issues.
where is auto dim located ? man i have looked all through the menu and can't find it.
Setup Menu - Display Settings - Auto-Dim

i dont' understand why but there is no auto-dim in the display settings. all i have is wallpapers on/off and brighness. any ideas what i am doing wrong or missing ?
Tip the auto dim only shows up if you are docked in the car cradle. Then it will show up in that same area.
ah, ok good i'm not crazy. i'm using the home kit. i guess the tip pertaining to auto dim and the s50 locking up is not effecting me then. i guess its maybe the back to back recording bug that caused the lockup.
my serial number begins 0084 (my last one was 0080)
was this a serial num that has been associated with problems or just speculation anyone here on the board using a s-50 with that serial i ask as
i'm planning on act my s-50 tommorow and the serial num is the 0080
Mine is an 0080 and I haven't had any problems that couldn't be resolved through a firmware update. Of course the cold issue with the car dock is something that can only be corrected by replacement or some kind of "warm up" feature when the S50 is placed in the dock and it can't find antenna signal.
I got the PSRAM error the first day I got the unit. I ended up reseating it in the dock. Since then never encounted this problem again.
For a Scheduled Recording: Do i have to have Auto Shutdown tunred off? I'd hate for it to wake up, start recording and then one hour later turn itself off.
***Update - 30 Dec 05*** I believe I found a solution to this mess from reading other posts. After I docked the unit, I then shut it off, removed and docked it again. Now it works perfectly... as long as I dock it twice.
***Original - 28 Dec 05*** I picked up the home kit for my S50 and am having a problem with it recording scheduled programs.
Here's what I have experienced so far....
Day 1: Setup to record "Jim Breuer Unleased" at 9 to 11pm (M-F) then turned the unit off with the remote. The result is that the device never turns on to record and it removes the entry from the schedule list.
Day 2: Used the same recording setup as Day 1, but left the home dock on. The S50 locked up and removed the entry from the scheduled screen.
Day 3: Set the recording for "Once" with the same time frame and turned it off. Same result as Day 1.
Day 4: Set the recording for "Once" with the same time frame and left the unit on. Success... kinda... it recorded the show, after telling it to go ahead when prompted to switch channels, but now the unit is on all night and it's a bit of a pain to have to set this up every night.
Another issue I'm having is when the unit is turned off in the home dock and when the unit is removed, it turns itself back on for a second or two, then shuts off.
One time it locked up the unit and when I got it working again (removed battery) "My Favorites" was missing... I had to remove the battery and try to turn it back on (with the battery still out), the screen flickered, then put it back together, turned it on and then everything was back.
I didn't see anyone else with these problems as I've been reading this site for 2 or 3 days now, so any advise is greatly appreciated!

Many of us continue to have a multitude of recording problems.
Can someone from Sirius please tell us Stern fans if the radios with the recording fixes will be in the stores for us to return our defective S50's prior to 1/9? If so,what serial numbers should we look for?
(If not - there are goinmgto be a LOT of PO'd Stern fans)

Whatever is done will be done so via a firmware update, not exchanges at stores. The only exchanged recommended is if you have a defective piece of hardware. These are bugs, not defects, there is a difference.

When I spoke to tech supp I told them I was able to get rid of the psram error but it came back. The guy told me that although I was able to fix it, the problem would come back eventually since it is the start of hardware failure.
So based on my understanding of "My Sirius Channels" how are those who just have a carkit using it?
From the manual it suggests to not leave the S50 power on while the car isn't on. So that implies you need the car running which you would only do while driving. Since the S50 must be on a channel in order to record it to "My Sirius Channels" that also implies you're actually listening to that particular channel while driving. So in that case, you're only buffering music into "My Sirius Channels" that you've already listened to?
I'm planning on getting a home dock, so the above wouldn't be much of an issue with me going forward (as I'll be able to schedule recordings or leave it on for extended periods of time and then be able to listen to NEW music offline), but just wondering how those with just a carkit are using it? Or am I completely missing the concept?

I sure hope there is a firmware released before the 9th.

That's interesting because I've had the unit for nearly a month now and it has been working just fine despite my first day PSRAM error.
BTW, people with the cold car dock "acquiring signal" problem should call Sirius tech support. Apparently they are making a list of people who are experiencing the problem. If enough people call in they might bump the priority on getting this corrected. Right now they have no work around or solution other than to let it warm up.
