Default stream_ON v1.0 (BETA)

Hello Everyone!

-----------
New Users:

This is stream_ON v1.2.1.0 (BETA). I've been working on this little program for the past few months, and its big brother, the stream_ON tracker. Today, I would like to share it with all of you. stream_ON allows you to:
--See what is playing on all channels
--Store favorite songs and artists
--Instantly call up artist biographies

This program is a work in progress, and there are several issues that I'm sure you will quickly find (particularly the seek alerts).

Anyway, feel free to send me any feedback you wish (it rocks, it sucks, fix this, add that...anything).

------------------------------

KNOWN ISSUES:

1. If you are running stream_ON on a system with McAfee VirusScan Enterprise 8.0i, the buffer overflow protection will cause the drop-down boxes to be filled with blank items. The solution is to disable the buffer overflow protection in the VirusScan Console.

2. Artist lookup information may be unavailable if you have tuned to a channel with an incomplete artist name (i.e., the name is too long).

3. Artist info is NOT 100% accurate...information is retrieved from Yahoo! Music and may sometimes be inaccurate or unavailable.

4. Song and artist seek are a work in progress. Some songs may be alerted twice during the same airing or not at all at times.

5. Eating fried chicken in the vicinity of this program will reduce its performance.

------------------------------

KNOWN SIRIUS ISSUES: (I can't fix these...)

1. SIRIUS' live shows from the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame (Dusty Street and Norm N. Nite) may not provide accurate titling information, especially if you tune in at the beginning of their shows. If the titles get stuck, change to another channel, then change back. Also...artist seek will not work during these live shows.

2. Artist and title information on channels other than the one you are currently listening to may be truncated. This is due to a character limit on the receiver that is providing the data.

3. Artist and song seek will not work on any of the Canadian channels.

------------------------------

FUTURE WORK:

--Sports scores
--Proxy server support

Check SiriusBackstage.com for updates and bug reports.
-----------------------------------------------------------

Enjoy!!

-Eric

It is a really nice program, Eric, the only problem is that I get an error like this:

Quote:
Unable to download tracker file: The underlying connection was closed: An unexpected error occurred on a receive.

Thanks realwx...there is a small server issue that has just been discovered, probably due to the load...I will have an update available soon.

In the mean time, the program will work if the tracker is behind or unavailable, you'll just get the "closed captions" at the beginning of the songs.

Keep the error notices coming, they are so greatly appreciated!

Great app, but I have 2 feature requests all ready

1. Allow a Favorites category in the combo box, where I can view only channels that I have specified, that way I can view all artists/songs playing on my favorite stations in the listview.

2. Allow a minimize to System Tray, with a tooltip saying the Artist-Song currently playing.

Now if only we can do auto-tune of S-Seek and Artist-Seek and record songs from the S-seek and Artist-Seek.

dmbfiredancer--Definitely considering these...favorites category seems possible, I'll have to think about how to go about this

realwx--One of the features I'm thinking about is just being able to click on an alert and instantly change to that channel. Believe it or not, there is so much involved in making that work properly...but it is on the "stuff to add" list.

tgajr--Sorry, Windows only...I'm not aware of any emulators that can work with .NET applications, but I'm certainly no expert.

Keep 'em coming!

Looks to be Windows only, and considering it requires the .NET framework I doubt a Mac version will be coming anytime soon.

Personally, I'd love to see a Mac version of something like this.

storm - How do you get the artist/title data from Sirius? Is there an internet protocal they support for accessing this data?

great application eric.
maybe the ability to resize the app in a future release?
or the ability to show all channels at once without the need for the dropdown menu?

Thanks,
Joe

Great work and great app-

It seems to be running a little slowly on my work computer, but after all it's a beta .

I'm so glad you have the time to create and continue to work on this. On behalf of everybody, thanks!
