Default Howard Stern coming back to terrestrial radio?

http://www.nypost.com/entertainment/63508.htm

Quote:
May 9, 2006 -- HOWARD Stern says he's been offered a "major deal" to come back to regular radio via satellite radio - just like his longtime enemies Opie & Anthony.
"The joke could be on them if I get good and worked up [because] I got offered a major deal to go back to terrestrial and stay on satellite at the same time," Stern told his Sirius listeners in comments replayed and mocked yesterday by "O&A."

"Can you imagine if I go across town against them in all those markets and just kick some a-? That would really be cool," said Stern, who now broadcasts to about a tenth of his former audience.

If an offer was actually made to Stern, it most likely came from Citadel Broadcasting, which is in the process of acquiring Disney/ABC's radio division - including New York's WABC, WPLJ and WEPN - and is headed by former Infinity/CBS exec Farid Suleman.

Once Suleman gets the keys to ABC's outlets, he could instantly return Stern to major FM stations in New York, L.A., Chicago and other huge cities, if Sirius, which is paying $500 million over five years for Stern's supposedly exclusive services, agrees to trade exclusivity for cash.

During a recent investor conference call, CEO Mel Karmazin said he's not entertaining reverse-licensing offers but added, "It doesn't mean that we couldn't in the future."

Neither Stern's agent or Suleman returned calls seeking comment.

No way Stern is going to do an edited, FCC-compliant broadcast. He's already stated openly that it won't happen. Only way this would ever happen is if they bleep the %&$# out of the show.

Or run the show tape-delayed and edited the following day. Citadel tried that with Dopie & Ain't-funny for a few weeks last year.

If he ever pulls the same shit in putting on a watered down FM show that O&A did, he will have lost me as a listener for the rest of my days here.

Here we go, its a NY Post article. probably took something Stern said and twisted it around for their favor. Stern has repeatidly said that he was not going back to FM radio.

He wants his show exclusive to Sirius Radio unlike XM wanting Opie and Anthony to spread their wings and venture into FM Fantasy land.

I remember Howard talking about this last Thursday or Friday show. I'm glad he will never return to terrestrial radio!

Great thread on it on the new york radio message board...

http://www.musicradio77.com/wwwboard/

Some pretty good points. Bottom line is if the deal is absolutely right you better believe you'll see Stern back on terrestrial radio. Eventually he's going to be tired of doing his show to a tenth of his audience. I mean the whole purpose of radio is being heard by the most amount of people, right?

Right and he specifically said he would not want to do it. He also was not talking specifically about O&A when he said "Can you imagine if I go across town against them in all those markets and just kick some a-? That would really be cool", he was talking about CBS and Les Moonves, but naturally the article gets it's info from O&A's delusional, obsessive rantings. If there was any mention of O&A during Howard's rant, it had nothing to do with this statement.

This will NEVER happen! Although, it would be kind of cool to see him school the shit out of O&A one more time.

I don't think (hope not) that Howard will not go back to TERR radio, or tone down the show. However I will say that money is a very powerful way to change peoples minds. I mean other than a few things, for hundreds or billions of dollars is there anything you would not do for it? Say 700 Million dollars offer to Stern or even 800 million?

A lot of people are saying never but never say never. If it does happen, he will kill CBS and be bigger than ever almost immediately. But I think it will seriously hurt Sirius, so if he is committed to the idea of satelite radio and all, he won't consider it (even if it would put those punch bitches O and A in their place).
