SIRIUSBackstage.com is happy to announce the return of Walk The Dog.
The concept behind Walk The Dog is to expand the SIRIUS listening experience beyond your favorite presets and discover all the great and diverse musical genres that SIRIUS has to offer.
The way that Walk The Dog works is every week we will be discovering three new SIRIUS music channels. There will be a channel that is consider popular, one that is considered somewhat popular, and one that is considered not so popular or that some have never tuned into before. Now of course opinions will vary from listener to listener, but the three channels each week will be very diverse so most everyone should have at least one channel that they will be discovering for the first time.
I encourage everyone participating to listen with an open mind. The goal of Walk The Dog is not to force you to listen to every music channel that SIRIUS offers but to encourage you to at least give every channel a try. There will be no rules as to how long or when during the week you have to listen the each channel all I ask is that you try to give each channel an hour of your weekly SIRIUS listening. During the week that the three channels are premiered there will be an open forum for us to discuss our thoughts and opinions of the channels.
New channels will be announced on Saturday with the listening experience starting on Monday and continuing through Saturday evening. Sundays will be dedicated to posting your final feelings of the channels and if you plan on listening to it in the future. There won't be a set schedule to what channels will be played so if SIRIUS has any special programming or event on a channel we can schedule accordingly. It also gives us the ability to surprise everyone and we absolutely love surprises.
Tips to help make Walk The Dog more enjoyable and successful.
Post your current SIRIUS presets before you start Walk The Dog. As the weeks go by let everyone know if you have changed any of your presets due to a new channel that you have discovered and enjoy.
Don't focus too hard on listening to the channels you feel you might not enjoy, instead try listening to those channels while you're doing something else or have it as background music.
Try to give each channel at least an hour of listening time. Hopefully you will find each channel enjoyable enough to give them a listen to each day if however you absolutely don't like a particular channel doesn’t feel the need to force yourself to listen to it; chances are you will enjoy one of the other to during that week.
Actively post you feelings about the channels that week before, during and after you start listening. It will be nice to see if and how your feelings have changed about a particular channel.
There are no rules to Walk The Dog, but remember if you do post, there are rules to the board. Please follow them and respect everyone’s opinion.
Most importantly, music is supposed to be fun so have fun while participating in Walk The Dog and listening to new music.
The channels for week one of Walk The Dog are as follows.
...happens to be my #1 preset. I'd consider this one alone worth the subscription price. I'm looking forward to seeing everyone's feedback on this one. I find that the channel's "feel" changes with the DJ, so that will be an interesting point of discussion next Sunday!
All in all, I'm looking forward to this, as I was just recently thinking that I haven't given too many other channels a chance, having my LoC addiction and all.

I'm really glad we're starting this up again.
I'm not too familiar with these 3 channels. I've probably never intentionally put on a country station in my life. But, this week I will try these channels.
I'm looking forward of the return of "Walk The Dog". I have New Country preset and I enjoy listening to it every so often. Not familer with Left of Center and Classical Voices .
Hey now sox! Thanks for giving this thing another try. I have always been a rock n roller but, trying the country station for an hour won't be so bad I guess lol
Just wondering, how did you go about selecting the first 3 channels for this? Random pick or...?
So, do we post new threads each week or do we just keep posting over and over until this thread gets longer and longer?
There will be a new thread every saturday for discussion of that weeks channels. This weekend got a little hectic for me with work but I'll be setting up the week one thread tonight when I get home.

I chose new country because the country music awards are next week and they are going to be having alot of programming for it. The other two were random.
btw. If theres anyone who is good with photoshop and feels like donating some time to make a cool sig pic for walk the dog it would be greatly appreciated.

Just a thought, but could you make a thread for each channel?

I just realized that SBS has created a whole new forum for Walk the Dog. That's perfect.
I'm really looking forward to this. It should be great to read all the posts. It will take about five months to go through all the music channels at this pace. By that time, we'll have our annual channel updates, so we can add a few more weeks for the new channels.
For some channels, I think your opinion may change based on how long you listen throughout the week. As an example, if you listen to Classical Pops for just the minimum one hour, you may think it's pretty good. In that one hour, you'll hear some classical music you'll recognize. But if you listen for, say four hours each day, you'll realize they have an extremely limited list of pieces they play over and over. When people comment, I'd be interested to hear how long they listened over the week, to see if there's a difference in how people like the channel based on how long they listened.
I think we should post a new thread for each channel, and the OP should post a detailed description of the channel, including highlighted shows and personalities.
Here is an example of how they did Folktown, which I guess doesn't exist anymore, in December of 2004
I think this is the way to go. I hope soxnationonline hears me.
I don't know anything about any of the channels up this week, or I'd do it myself.
Edit: Actually, I don't have permission to post a new topic. I was just going to copy the description from the What's On Sirius page on www.Sirius.com. I guess soxnationonline is the only one who can post new threads?
