This is such a good station. I love that Eminem picked the djs I just wish like xms the rhyme Eminem had a radio show on Shade 45. This has some of the best rap around except for backspin. Everyone should check out this station.
This is a good channel. SLightly different play list compared to the other channels. I personally don't like listening to the shows, but thats me. The shows are interesting. Part of why I got Sirius was to get rid of crappy radio shows. I dont listen to much talk, but these guys are entertaining. This was a programmed channel from the beginning.
It has been a while since i have listened to this channel. I would say it was about a year ago when i stopped listening to shade 45. Nothing wrong with the channel but the only show i really liked was the rude jude show. But i guess now it will give me a chance to the other show since i am not able to listen to rude jude anymore.
This is my favorite channel. The Cipha Sounds morning show is extremely funny. The All-Out Show, with Lord Sear and Rude Jude, is every hip-hop lover's dream show. I could not imagine a better show than this. It's hilarious and you learn a ton about hip-hop. Mash-up Mondays is pretty cool, because some of the mashes he plays are really awesome (check out 3 Doors Down vs. jay z by oddz n endz). Toca Tuesdays has excellent music. Kay Slay is a legend. Clinton Sparks has, in my opinion, the most entertaining personality of the night shows. The Aphilliates are huge right now. G-Unit Saturdays is extremely funny, often more so than Howard Stern is. Sundays, Rep Yo Set is cool too. Lil' Shawn is kind of boring, though. Finally, Lord Sear and his extended drunk mix is crazyyyy!!
Even if you're not a hip-hop fan, there is much to check out on this channel. The Shady 5 at 5PM (weekdays) is always very educational, especially on "sample" Wednesdays. At around 7:30, weekdays (except Wednesdays, when Rude Jude takes over), check out Lord Sear's Drunk Mix. Clinton Sparks has big celebrities on Thursday nights. While you may not be a G-Unit/50 Cent fan, the G-Unit Radio hosts are extremely funny, and there are always big guests coming through and calling up (often you can get over 10 guests a day!)
I'm looking forward to hearing what you all have to say about this channel!!
I'm totally unfamiliar with this channel. I'm a classic rock/1980's fan. Other than Backspin 43, I'm not into hip-hop. But, I'll give it a chance this week.

I'm also rather open minded; I listen to almost any kind of music out there.
Pioneer inno-In house and all around
Pioneer DEH-P6800MP with GEX-P920 XM tuner and Stratus-Car
SIRIUS Stiletto 100-House and on the go
We have two hip hop channels that don't sound that much different.
I'm a Hip Hop fan, but not of the music these two channels play. Don't hate it, it has it's fans and makes a ton of dough, but for me, I wish at least Hip Hop Nation was really a nation and not just focused on one region of it.
I'm going to listen for an hour, and I hope it's not all dirty south type hip hop I hear.
I can't get into a lot of the newer rap- seems like the last few years it's all become east coast/atlanta type hip-hop that is a lot of repetitious chanting and yelling. I miss the days of smooth, well produced, westcoast hip-hop with the complicated rhymes. Tupac, Dre... that's some good stuff. East Coast rap is more about yelling.
badmotherfarker, I don't know if you really mean East Coast rap. I think you mean Southern rap, which is what's popular now. And even down south, only Crunk music and Hyphy music tend to yell. East coast: think jay-Z, Nas, the Roots, Tribe Called Quest... You probably don't like Southern music, which is understandable (I don't either), but it's what's popping now. Luckily, Shade45 (and HHN) play a good mix; an emphasis on what's popular, while not ignoring (or at least completely ignoring) other music scenes.
Explain to a novice - What's the basic difference between what Shade 45 plays and what Hip Hop Nation plays? Knowing that will help me evaluate this channel.
I urge you all not to evaluate Shade45 on the music it plays "regularly"; rather, listen to the many shows. Start listening at 4 for The All Out Show, and listen at nights (rather than during the day). The regular music it plays during the day is admittedly hard for non-hip-hop fans to digest.
Hip-hop Nation and Shade45 do have a significant overlap in terms of the music that gets played in their regular rotation. However, both channels put different songs into "heavy" rotation (thank god). Shade45 will have the more mainstream songs in heavy rotation (eg. Ridin' Dirty, Snitch), while Hip-Hop Nation will put some deeper, new tracks into heavy rotation (eg. Ding!, You Can't hold The Torch).
Hip-Hop fans LOVE both Shade45 AND HHN. If you turn on urban radio almost anywhere in North America, you will hear something like Hot Jamz 50, which is a mix of r+b and rap. To hear actual, straight rap is quite rare. Right now, Southern rap is dominating. Groups like D4L (Laffy Taffy) and guys like Paul Wall are moving units and are all over the radio (regular radio). Shade45 and HHN have not ignored this and they play a ton of Southern music. While this blows for a guy like me, who's really not a fan of this, tons of people love this. I heard them saying on Shade45 a few months ago that the highest number of listeners on the hip-hop channels are from the south (not sure how they measured this). In any case, you will hear a lot of southern rap. Note that some purists don't even consider this stuff to be rap.
HHN and Shade45, do however, play other music. Jae Millz, a NY artist, is in heavy rotation on Shade45. And again, I must stress, listen to the shows...Clinton Sparks, Tony Touch, Kay Slay...You will get higher quality music (just wait till we walk the dog on HHN).
So, to end this long message: is there a difference between HHN and Shade45? Yes. It has to do, most importantly, with the feel of the channel. You can only get this after listening for a long time to both. For the dog walkers that aren't hip-hop fans: you can't pigeonhole HHN or Shade45. They both try to be everything, to everyone. it's not like the rock streams, where you can have a hard rock channel and and a jam-rock channel that play completely different songs. Both rap channels cover a wide (though not at all, all-encompassing) range of rap music. Before the rock people start complanining about 2 hip-hop channels that play some of the same songs, and how the bandwidth can be put to better use in creating another rock channel (perhaps a stream recognizing rock songs released by people whose first names start with the letters A, E, I, O U), the various shows are what truly define these two channels. Remember, we hip-hop fans USED to be in nirvana with Wax42... Now, they've moved the Wax42 songs to Hip-Hop Nation. Both Shade45 and HHN are necessary and complement each other. If you stop by the hip-hop discussions, youll see that a lot of us are looking for HHN to move into more 90's rap and underground. I suspect this will slowly begin to occur, as Shade45 deepens their playlist (they've improved recently).
Also, if the music you hear in regular rotation isn't for you, I guarantee that you will find something inetersting on HHN and Shade45. If you're discouraged, post your likes/dislikes up here, and I will be happy to direct you to a show that may capture your imagination. Many people (read: my MOM) are very surprised to hear some of the things that get played on Shade45, and what can be qualified as hip-hop.
Alright, i have more to say on why Shade45 is extremely important in the hip-hop world; I'll save it for later on! This message is long enough as it is!
