When I'm not on the road I'll listen to this channel when I go to sleep. I only started about a year ago when I got my first Sirius radio. Before that I used to listen to XM 71 Watercolors.
The only thing I don't like about this channel is they play Steely Dan on this channel. I'm not an expert on Modern Jazz, but I don't think that Josie by Steely Dan is a Modern Jazz song. NO Steely Dan song is a Modern Jazz song. Jazz Café, please stop playing Steely Dan! Basia, Sade, they're ok.
I'll miss Watercolors when I get rid of my XM's at the end of the year. That is truly a channel that is better then it's equal at Sirius...
When I'm in the jazz neighborhood, I prefer Pure Jazz. This station is kind of a mix between smooth jazz and mellow r/b music. It isn't a terrible station, but not one I"m likely to tune to often. I prefer Watercolours as well.
I listen to this occasionally, and I like it to relax after a long or bad day. I agree with folks upthread on the programming, however. Right now Luther Vandross is on. I associate him more with R&B than "smooth jazz." Also agree that, while I'm a big Steely Dan fan, it doesn't really belong here either.
They just switched to Boney James, that fits what I would expect on this channel very well. Out of the 3 jazz channels, this is by far the one I listen to the least.
This is one channel that I have never listened to. I will give it a listen and llet you guys know what I think. The only jazz I'm really familiar with is Maynard Ferguson and his ilk (being a former trumpet player it, it was required listening).
I probably would never actively listen to this channel, but the music is real nice as background music. I'm surprised at the pop/r&b stuff that they play, like Lionel Richie, Luther Vandross. I still rather pure jazz, but this channel is okay.
I like the R&B cuts they work in with the instrumentals. It's a good way to hear a little of that genre without tuning into an urban station, which I usually don't do. Sounds a little like CD 101.9 here in NY...they throw in the Steely Dan too!
My wife is into smooth jazz. I like the spanish guitar (Marc Antoine) stuff but don't get into the saxxy music like Boney James. Anyway, she has XM and she prefers Watercorlors a lot more.

Definetely my favorite Jazz channel. It skips all that dysfunctional jazz. You know, the kind that sounds like 8 guys playing 8 different songs. I hear many say they prefer XM Jazz to Sirius but this is the best Jazz channel i've heard so far IMO. When will Symphony Hall be up Sox? Or did i miss it?
As others have said so far about this station great background music. I had a ton of work to do at home the other night that i totally surpassed the hour minimum. I listened it for two hours straight. The next day i needed to go to work earlier than i normally do and was half asleep. instead of going to hits 1 or shuffle or 80s i went to the jazz cafe.
