It's not "Todays dance hits" anymore. This station recently dropped all the new music in favor of 80's new wave pop, and eclectic dance tracks from the early 2000's. The playlist has been shifting pretty much weekly since the beginning of June. Used to be my favorite station on Sirius, and it's the reason I got Sirius in the first place. Now it's counterpart on XM does the job MUCH better. Very sad Sirius, very sad.

I was wondering when I tuned in this morning and heard "Cruel Summer" by Bananarama.
All dance music sounds the same to me. What would really be nice is if someone could give a class on dance music. Dance Music 101. Let's get to the basics of this.
Now, just because I say that all dance music sounds the same to me, that doesn't mean that I don't like dance music. I haven't gone to a club in a long time, but I don't mind listening every once in a while.
Now, my questions to all the dance experts is...
How is dance music classified? I just heard a Mariah Carey Mix. Something I know she didn't write as a dance song, but someone decided to take it and turn it into a dance mix.
How many of these songs are mixed by the DJ's in studio? Or is there another station for this? How much credit does the DJ get for thies mixes?
Is The Beat only a channel that plays remixes that can be found at any music store?
All in all, I can listen to The Beat. I listened to Area 33 mostly, if I get in the mood for dance music...
BTW, who took the new Paris Hilton song and turned it into a dance song?...
I haven't listened to this channel yet, but I have heard about Paris Hilton has a song. So I just heard that song, the link you posted. OMG I want to burn my ears now!

Yeah, I'm not too sure what the point of this channel is anymore. A lot of people in the dance section of the boards are complaining about this channel. I've listened a few times. I prefer The Strobe a lot more.

Here is a site which talks about the various types of dance music
Many of the remixes can be downloaded at I tunes. It isn't likely you'll find too much dance music at a music store as they tend to stick to only the best selling music. Dance music doesn't tend to make it on the top 100 as it is completely dominated by hip hop and R and B.
Most of the complaints about the Beat is that it doesn't play a lot of music which you're likely to hear at a dance club. The top 40 remixes may be played at some very mainstream clubs, but not at many urban dance clubs. Especially later at night.
Also, the older music is fine, but not on a dance hits station. Sirius hits one shouldn't play music from the big 80's even though the songs were hits in the past. Dance music needs a station which plays the music from the 90s and early 2000s.
I could dance to The Beat music, but still probably wouldn't listen to it often!
I just flip to the station tonight and heard Elvis Presley vs. JXL on it the song is "A Little Less Conversation" but I do like that song, the opening song for the TV show "Las Vegas".

Agree with you in general, but... I remember Hits One had a Journey track from the early '80s in their rotation for a few years... I think it was one of those hot teen shows using the song for some pivotal scene or other that pushed Journey back into the pop charts.
