I don't like this channel enough to program into my favorites, but I do listen to it from time to time.
I did 6 hours behind the wheel on the highway this weekend and listened to Jam-On for about an hour today on the way home. I usually start flipping through the non favorite channels on long trips.
I really don't care for this station. I don't really like jam bands and I've spent far too much time hanging out with Dead and Phish heads. Too many other good choices for me to spend my time on.
I love this channel. It really relaxes me and relieves a lot of my stress after work and school. I also fall asleep to it, and it's one of my favorite channels.
I've listened to this channel a few times, but never for more than ten minutes at a time. I've not been impressed by what they play but am opne to delving deeper before making up my mind on how I really feel about Jam-On. So, in the spirit of Walk the Dog, I will give Jam-On a listen for at least four hours this week.
Wow, I've never really tuned in, but I always see this channel going between 14-15-16 and 19-20. I really like this channel now. As long as I don't have to join the lifestyle of the jam band fanbase, I can keep hanging out on 17.
Prior to this week, I was a little surprised that this genre of music was large enough to have its own channel. (I'm always thinking I'd like to see some classic progressive rock incorporated into this channel; but, maybe that would be a mistake? -- just a thought).
Most of what I have liked on this channel has been stuff I already knew, like Jimi Hendrix and The Allman Brothers.
Prior to this week, I was a little surprised that this genre of music was large enough to have its own channel.
Same here, and after listening on my drive in to work this morning, I'm not sure I think it is large enough to have its own channel. Never been much of a Deadhead, so I went into this with some trepidation. But, I promised myself I'd listen to them all during WTD. As usual, was not as bad as I thought it might be. They did play some live Santana that I liked, and I heard a couple new (to me) bands that were interesting.
All in all though, I'm not sure I need 20 minutes of any song, let alone a style that's not one of my favorites. And an hour of live Phish every weeknight seems like way overkill, which might speak to how narrow the genre is more than anything. I'm sure somebody's a big fan of this station, though, so good on 'em.
Wow - I am embarrassed to admit this, but I had no idea this genre even existed! I know about The Grateful Dead and Phish, but I was never really exposed to much of their music. Nor, did I have any idea that there was a full genre of this type of music. Very interesting to say the least.
I gave it a full 8 hour listen at work yesterday and another couple of hours at home last night. I also had it on as i was going sleep. I can say with all honesty that this type of genre isn't my favorites. I was never really a fan of 20 min songs, but after giving it a solid listen (in the spirit of Walk The Dog), I can appreciate this type of music. I thought it was great music to have on in the background - at work, puttering around the house, going to bed, etc. I don't think i would like to have it on while I am active listening, but i did learn a lot by having a listen yesterday. Plus, I found out about some new bands - moe., Widespread Panic, Umphrey's McGee, etc.
I actually think i would make it a pre-set and i certainly will flick back to this channel from time to time to check it out. I am glad I learned more about this type of music (even though I am still surprised it has enough of a following to warrant its own channel).
As a side note, when I was going to sleep, Wide Spread Panic's "One Arm Steve" was on. I could of swore it was STILL on when I woke up!!
I'm really glad Sirius offers this channel. People who like this style of music are really passionate about it. I just don't care for it. Of all the rock channels, this one is my least favorite. I find it a little too meandering and self-indulgent. Like others, I'm not a fan of the 17 minute guitar solo.
I do like some of the more commercial studio recordings of the Grateful Dead (especially Ripple and Friend of the Devil). But the long jam versions of their songs really start to annoy me. This one's not for me.
I also gave jam on the hour and didnt hear anything that interested me to much. didnt get one of my presets. and unlike some of the past walk the dog stations i dont think ill be coming back to often to this one. on a side note anyone notice both jam on and praise feature songs that are a bit on the long side??
