Love the music on BackSpin. I sometimes tune in The Great One, Dana Dane on my morning drive. Lady B in the afternoon, not so much.
BackSpin is the companion channel to Big 80's and First Wave for my formative years. I notice lately that there may be less repetition on 43 than there was 6 months or so ago. Bonus!
Only complaint, this channel could use more special programming. "Backspin Fact Tuesday" just isn't cutting it.
I definitely didn't care for Shade 45 during Week 2, but I grew up around this music. This and the stuff on First Wave. Basically, anything on MTV in the 1980's. Big 80's and Hair Nation too, but to a lesser extent.
I just turned Backspin on and they're already playing Run DMC, my favorite band of this genre. I've set my Starmate Replay to alert me when they're playing.
Backspin has been a LOT better lately. They used to skew way too heavilly towards the 80's, in my opinion. They are doing a MUCH better job at playing 90's rap, and the repitition has decreased significantly. i agree that a mix show would be awesome and would bring much warranted attention to the channel. During July 4th weekend, the Wonder Twinz did an excellent mix; maybe they could do something for Backspin, in addition to their weekend shows on 40.
3 for 3 this week for me as this channel is also a preset of mine. I know a lot of people on here are complaining that they want a 90's rap station which I dont consider all 90's rap to be old school, some is old new school, but thats a whole different topic. I really like this channel. I've been a fan of rap since 4th grade. This channel is great because it has everything from the beginning of rap to where the other rap channels starts. It has a different sound compared to today's rap. A lot of the 80's rap has a much more positive sound to it as well. Run DMC and Grand Master Flash discourage drug use in their songs and promote school. So do a lot of other old rappers. It's just much more positive and party oriented as opposed to gangster rap or the even newer stuff that's all about ho's, 24 inch rims, grillz, and smoking weed.
I kind of think that maybe instead of a chronological split, it may make more sense to focus Backspin on the party/positive side of old-school, and add a channel (BothSide or something) that does the classic gangsta stuff (NWA & Public Enemy plus the gangsta of the '90s).

I am looking forward to it. I am not a fan of rap or hip hop music, but i grew up in the 80s and Run DMC et al were always playing. I still like to hear some RUN DMC songs and who doesn't like the Digital Underground!! Do they play Sir Mix-a-lot??
I think I would be tuning into this station for grims more than anything. However, i have had it on in the background for about an hour this morning, and its not really doing anything for me thus far... I will have to give it more time.
I guess if I had to listen to a Hip-Hop station, this would be it. It is cool hearing all the some of the songs I remember from MTV back in the day. Since I'm not really into this genre though, a lot of the songs are too unfamiliar for me.

Same here. I have enjoyed the music I remember from MTV, but I am unfamiliar with a lot of the other songs. This has been one of my presets for some time now, but I haven't listened for long periods of time. For some reason, I enjoy this channel more in the evening or night, than I do in the morning; I guess it's the party vibe.
I think that rap has become too commercialized. I was always a big old school fan. I also enjoy Eminem and Dr. Dre, but I think most rap today leaves something to be desired.
I am glad I found this channel. It has some great tunes, and reminded me how creative rap was before it was ruined by the record companies. P Diddy versus Chuck D? No contest!
This is one of my favorite stations. Listening to this music in the late 80's and early 90's was great. It's nice to have a whole station dedicated to this time. I love hearing PE, Run DMC, et al.
i liked this station from when i first got sirius. i mean how can you not like kris kross jump jump lol but it isnt a preset for me just because hip hop nation and shade45 are presets for me so i can just go up or down for backspin.
I put Backspin on my presents and removed Coffeehouse. The main reason is that I have Coffeehouse on all day at work, and frequently at home. Because I listen to it so much, I never listen to it in the car.
Also, I can move up to Shade 45 to check out that station from Backspin, so it's like getting 2 presets for the price of one.
