I've tried lsitening to this a few times. It's not really my style. I prefer a more island or even more ethnic style of music. A good friend of mine likes reggaeton however and will have to see what he thinks of it.
The songs are in Spanish, and there is a lot of accordion. IMO, that's a recipe for disaster....Unless, of course, you speak Spanish or like accordions, which I don't.
I probably won't listen to Rumbon again after this week, because it's just not my kind of music. But, I actually liked it more than I thought I would. This music has got a lot of energy. I'm glad Sirius has this channel.
Is this channel new or newly re-named? I don't remember seeing Rumbon on the last channel guide I looked at. (Which has been awhile since I already know where all of my favorite channels are)
This channel isn't really for me. I mean, the music had a good beat and all but I'm just not into it. I'm sure there are those who are, especially those with Mexican/Hispanic roots. I wouldn't get rid of this channel, since variety and choices is what Satellite is all about, but it's just not for me.
When ever I'm at the Flying J in El Paso, TX, the ladies that work the cash registers always put the Sirius Radio display on this channel. After about an hour or so, someone will come along and change the channel to a rock or hip hop channel. Then one of them will have to go over and change it back...
I like this channel. I don't know if I'll put it on my presets, but I still like it. It's a good channel to listen to if you're having a party...
This channel isn't my style at all. I gave it an honest try a couple of different times this week, including a full 2 hour listen this morning at work. I just can't get into this music at all. I don't think i will ever be back to Rumbon after this week. Great for those who like this type of music, but just not my interest.
I like the reggaeton songs, and I'm glad that reggaeton has a home, but it's kinda hard to listen for an entire hour, or more, consiering practically all reggaeton has the same beat!! Luny Tunes should be the honorary executive producers of this channel. When they play the "other" lating music (ie. non-reggaeton), I lose interest quickly.
It sounds like I'm in the minority, but I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed this channel. I thought it was great, and I'm glad WTD allowed me to discover it. I liked it so much that it is now becoming a preset (on my C band). Many of the songs were much more melodic than any current English-language pop song. And I thought the variety was good too.
I couldn't understand the DJs, except when they were promoting other Sirius channels. I heard one DJ say (mostly in Spanish) "blah blah blah blah blah blah Rolling Stones Radio blah blah blah" - why the typical listener of this channel would be into the Rolling Stones I don't know. I thought that was funny.
Great channel. Much better than the French Language channel we heard a few weeks back.
Because i'm hispanic and live in the Dominican Republic, rumbon is a station that i listen to a lot, i do listen other stations, shade 45, hiphop nation, backspin ect. I would like to see more spanish stations on sirius, maybe an all reggaeton station, althought it's Very unlikely because sirius is not really into the U.S. spanish market. I remember that back on march 14th sirius took the Mexicana Station off the air and most mexicans that had sirius because of this particular station called to cancel.
That brings up this question.
*For what single sirius Channel if any, would you cancel your subscription if that channel was take off the air?

Money is nothing, but a lot of money, that's something else.
I actually have listened to it before and liked it. It's totally different from my usual, but it's fun music to listen to, even with my only 1 year of High School Spanish 20 years ago under my belt.
i agree with a few people that posted sirius needs an all regaetton station. rumbon is good but it is so broad its hard to go through a few songs before i get bored. but since its the only choice its good for a few songs.
I'm sure there are those who are, especially those with Mexican/Hispanic roots. I wouldn't get rid of this channel, since variety and choices is what Satellite is all about, but it's just not for me.
Somehow I doubt that many Mexicans (or Costa Ricans, Guatemalans, Nicaraguans, Ticos, etc.) listen to Rumbon... it's primarily an island Spanish (Puerto Rican, Dominican, Cuban) channel.
That this channel is around and not Mexicana is probably a byproduct of Sirius HQ's location
