There was a time where I would have had this as a preset. I've mellowed a bit. I'm surprised I don't listen to this when I lift even. Not a bad station, but a bit harder than I care for anymore.
Hard Attack, one of the best stations on Sirius! I listen to this station quite a bit and enjoying blasting my speakers, because I love annoying certain people with the loud, heavy music!
I gave Hard Attack another listen. I'm not hating it as much as I anticipated. The worst thing about it for me, was (as I mentioned in an earlier post) the evil-sounding way some vocalists sing. I could do without that. Also, I'd probably get a headache if I listened for more than 10 minutes without a break.
What I like about Hard Attack is some of the guitar work -- the low note guitar riffing. Also, it's good to finally hear some of the metal bands that I read about in GuitarWorld magazine.
When I was younger, I used to listen to groups like AC/DC and Van Halen. My taste grow to Metallica and Anthrax. My tastes never really went any harder then that.
This is a good channel. Sirius really puts a lot of effort in this channel. Up until recently, this was the only real Heavy Metal channel on Satellite Radio. Sirius gained a lot of subscribers due to that.
The DJ's do a great job, too... Jose and Mario are the two I've heard. I haven't really heard the others.
I would have loved this channel when I was 17. But it's not for me, at my advanced age. I'm glad it's available for those who like it, but I won't be tuning in again.
This one falls right at the bottom of my list. I find it absolutely unlistenable.
I second this post!
Growing up, I enjoyed ACDC, Van Halen, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, etc and then moved into Metallica and Megadeth, etc. I guess thats as hard as I have progressed, as I can't listen to anything heavier than that. I haven't followed the metal scene since the early 90s, and I can't lie, I was shocked when I listened to this station for WTD. Is this the direction that metal has gone??
Overall, I just couldn't listen to it. I tried to listen for one full day - I had it on for 8 hours at work, and listened another 3-4 hours in the background when I was home in the evening. To me, the bulk of this music was just noise. It was painful to listen to. I don't mind the heavy guitar work and the drums - thats fine - its the singing the gets to me. Firstly, I can't understand most of what is being said at all, and what about the vocals????? When did this type of 'growling' become the norm and acceptable? Did Motorhead start this and then it slide downhill?? Why?
After listening to songs by Cannibal Corpse, I will never be back to this station. Just downright unlistenable for me. Gives me a headache!!! I guess I am too old for this (in my early 30s!). Its great for those of you who love this format, but not I!
I think the problem is most current heavy metal completely lacks any melody. It's just crunching guitars and that "cookie monster" screaming voice. The old stuff (Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, etc) was really heavy, but at its center was an actual melody.
