I love this channel and i absolutely love the shows - I've defended this channel in the Rock threads, so bring it on!! Essentially, this channel is geared EXACTLY towards people in my demographic. Walk into a pac sun store (see: every mall), and this is the type of music you will hear. It's a perfect mix, and an unbelievable concept.
It a not bad channel, I listen to it once a while, but I do enjoy some of the songs on there until they play some hip-hop stuff, then I change the station.
It was by far the best of the 3 this week, but I believe they call that "damned by faint praise." It's kind of an eclectic mix, and I hate the "Hard Attack" type stuff like where the "singer" is screaming in that really low voice.
It was OK. I appreciate that this format has an audience, I'm just not sure the "extreme sports" lifestyle crowd warrants a whole channel.
You don't have to be an "extreme sports" type of person. Many, many kids, between the ages of 14-22 (IMO!!) love this music---it's probably the most popular type. Look at the vans warped tour.
Today was the first time that I listened to this channel. There are some good things about it, and some bad things. First, the good...
The music is top notch. I really liked it. Not as much as my favorite channel (Alt Nation 21), but it's still good. The variety is great.
The Tony Hawk show wasn't so great. I was a big fan of Tony Hawk when I was in high school. I wasn't sure what to expect when the show came on. I didn't even know it was coming on. But I didn't think it was that good.
Also, The FU (Faction Update) wasn't that good. Can someone tell me why they have AD do these? That's too bad. I'm sure they could have found someone else... The info wasn't even that great.
I don't think I'll make this channel a preset. I may tune in from time to time...
A preset of mine that I really enjoy. If they could get away from the heavy metal stuff on the channel it would be ideal. I have never listened to any of the shows so I cant say anything about them. I wish Bodie Miller didnt have a show though. That drunk dumbass sucks. I like the mix of hip hop and hard rock. FOund a new band I like on it, The Gym Class Heroes.
This was my first week listening to Faction. It was okay. I'm not really familiar with any of the music on this channel, but it was easier to listen to than Hard Attack or any of the hip hop channels. I like the idea that this music is held together by a concept -- action sports.
While it's not for me, I can think of a few teenage skateboard types who would probably love this channel.
This one is not so bad, but I'd definitely rather have a full time punk channel. The hard rock and rap can be found elsewhere on channels that feature that music, but there is no exclusive punk channel. The extreme sports guys are obnoxious, in my opinion. I'd move them to a talk channel (Stars), and change this to a punk channel. The only thing I normally listen to is the Marky Ramone show, which is my second favorite music show on all of Sirius (after Vin Scelsa on Disorder). I'd love a channel that featured the music from that show 24/7 - it would become one of my absolute top presets.
I think there is a bit of room for consolidation with this channel. Ok, this station is aimed at action sports fan. Well, that is fine. But, how many of them are subscribers? Targeting 17 year olds, without credit cards, as subscribers seems a bit iffy to me.
The mix of punk rock and hip hop was a bit jarring. Sirius has two channels dedicated to current hip hop.
This was my first real expereince listening to Faction, outside of the couple of times that I tuned in and listened to Lance Armstrong's show. I didn't like this station at all. However, I did find it a lot easier to suffer through that Hard Attack or Hip Hop nation, but for the most part, I just found it unlistenable. I can't put my finger on it, but I just couldn't get into this sound. And I guess they are right about the action sports thing. Listening to this channel reminded me of playing PS2 games like ATV and SSX3, etc - the same music plays in the background of these video games. After about 4 songs, it gives me a headache. However, its great for those who enjoy this type of music. I don't know enough about the punk think to comment on its lack of content...
I won't be back to Faction.
