I guess I should have asked if anyone using the other semi-portables like the Xact or whatever it is have any luck on the LIRR. I basically don't want to have to sit there with the thing on the window.
A buddy of mine had the XM portable. No luck on Metro North, which is more or less the same as the LIRR.
As a matter of fact, the reception was not all that great just about anywhere indoors other than in Manhattan.
A train is a challenging place to receive a signal. Unless you have a strong TER signal, you are going to probably have issues. Hopefully the Sirius device will be better.

Looking for help on Sirius/XM??
It will be interesting to see how sat reception is on the Sirius Stiletto. The Sirius satellite and terrestrial repeater reception profile is different to XM's. It will be interesting reading the Stiletto reports when they are out. If I were a betting man, I'd say reception on the LIRR probably won't be very good, but I hope I am wrong.
i take mta bus in brooklyn and with my sportster replay and a battery pack from ebay and car antenna. i had to have the antenna near the window on the right side of the bus on the way home from work . it worked most of my way home , the only time it would go out is when i road under the elevated train on 86st .
i don't have a mp3 player or i pod , so when the stiletto cpmes out i will be picking one up so when the single goes out i will switch to my 100 hours of saved stuff. plus the stiletto is much smaller then when i huckedup my sportster with evrething.
