I must have one of these faulty units. When I hooked mine up my Alpine 9833 deck didn't even recognize that it was there. Everything is hooked up properly, I double checked, triple checked, and even had a friend who is an installer at the only local audio shop I trust baffle over it.

Its your HU not recognizing its there, try "Rebooting" your radio. By that i mean unplug it or disconnect your battery. Its common for headunits to take a while to detect the tuner for the first time.

Yeah I know, but nothing I could do about it, it was a gift. So now I gotta try to make the best of it.

I've reset my deck several times, it's not that, I'm gonna have the actual shop look at it tomorrow, because I am just frustrating myself with this. I've never had any problems I couldn't fix with car audio, but this one stumps me.

I have one of the newer SIR-ALP1 tuners and it works great. I have it hooked up to the constant lead that goes to my radio and it gives me no problems. In fact, when I had to replace my battery for my car I had the battery disconnected for several hours. Of course my receiver lost all of its settings, but strangly when switching to Satellite all of the presets were still saved.

weird, yeah I think I'm just going to try and get a new tuner and go from there. I have checked and double checked everything on it and it just won't work.

There definitely was a bad batch of early units...
I was lucky and got my SIR-ALP1 unit with a blue dot sticker on the box.

Those were the revision units....

I would make Directed take it back IT IS A KNOWN DEFECT.
Crutchfield knows it as well! I specifically requested a blue dot
when I ordered mine!

Also double check your wiring.
I just piggy backed my SIR-ALP1 to the radio harness
Color for color Yellow,Red, Black

No issues

Last week I submitted a review of the SIR-ALP1 on the Crutchfiled website saying it was good, but ours was a 'bad' early unit, and DEI and Crutchfiled did not care. I did this sort of hoping that someone at Crutchfield would see the review before they posted it and would hand it off to someone with the power to 'take care of it'. Well...thats just what happened.

Crutchfield contacted me and said they would replace the unit with no problem. They stopped short of admitting that some of the early units were bad (got ours 11-2004 BTW) but since they say they will replace it thats good enough for me. Still, it does suck that both DEI and Crutchfields 'tech' depts gave me the runaround and claim that there was never a problem with the early units. Its a shame that some social engineering was required to get results.

I figured out the problem with mine, at least I hope it's the only problem. My Ai-Net plug-in on my deck doesn't work. Weird, it did a few months ago. So, looks like it's going off to Alpine to get repaired under warranty. Hopefully it's not a bad tuner box too.

Is this still a problem with these units? Should I ask for a "Blue Dot" version when I get mine?

You should be OK if you buy one now. The 'bad' ones are almost a year old at this point.
