All of the DJs on Jam_On are fans of Jerry Garcia. But how many can say that they had the unenviable task of replacing the man in a band? Just one: Buddy Cage. It’s true – after Jerry left New Riders Of The Purple Sage in 1971, Buddy joined as their new pedal steel guitar player. But he’s also lent his talents to everyone from the Zen Tricksters to Bob Dylan (he played on the classic Blood On The Tracks). He tells us, “I’ve spent a lifetime trying to fit my pedal steel ideas into eclectic forms of music in order to make a living (a living I could live with), and enjoy playing to the variety with different kinds of expression. In short: I don’t like being told what to play.” That same free spirit flies when he's on the air on Jam_On.
