Herschel was born in Garwood, Alaska, to parents who worked for the US Forestry Service. After grad school, Herschel moved to Washington, D.C. where he was a lobbyist for the American Candy Industry. Hershel currently resides with his tropical fish, his pet Iguana Iggy and several uninvited rodents in renovated barn in Sullivan County N.Y.
