Talk:Starmate Replay
From Knowledge Base
The Starmate Replay is promoted as being portable between home and vehicle. Based on my experience, the power input jack is so shoddy that it will wear out within a few months if the user unplugs it in order to move between home and vehicle every day. The similar model XACT XTR8 Replay has the same problem. My XACT was replaced under warranty but the replacement one had a menu button that did not work. It would work using the remote. I sent that one back and XACT sent another one. This one works but when it warms up, in about 2 minutes, it stops. By now, the 1 yr warranty was up. Also, you must send everything back, not just the defective part. This means un-doing and re-wiring the antenna set-up that you made for both home and vehicle.
Then I bought the Starmate Replay. After six months the input power jack started shorting. Even if it was replaced under warranty, I knew the replacement would not have a usable FM transmitter. It now sits in permanent position in the home and I have another unit and second Sirius subscription for my primary vehicle.
Sirius should provide a more durable power jack for portable units. Sirius should provide a way for the consumer to restore usable FM power, if they desire. Like the CCRANE company does with their FM transmitter.
