Default xact rego delayed until december 31?

I just got a call from Crutchfield, and they told me that the rego's new delivery date is December 31. Translation: unknown.

If that is true that is not good. Sirius needs something like Myfi before Christmas

I think it will be here before that, I think they just said that because they just do NOT know. Although with the ReGo anything is possible.

There is little doubt Xact has screwed the Pooch on the Rego and has missed their released date by a substantial period at this point. I still say there was some design issues that have caused this problem, more specifically probably the 2.5g chipset and the heat. But that is pure speculation on my part. This does not as some have said mean that Xact is a no name company and are terrible. They have done a great service to Sirius and though I don't like this delay anymore than anyone else, just speaking crap in anger as I've seen doesn't do anyone any good. Look at how long it took Kenwood to get the H2E released, but I didn't see anyone calling it a no name brand and reporting how terrible they are. Audiovox took almost 7 months to get the XB9 boombox released for the XR9 tuner and again, though folks were impatient I didn't see folks making these type remarks. These things happen, but I'd much rather Xact not ship a defective product than to rush one out the door to make the nasayers happy and it be total crap. Call Xact whatever you want, but they are doing the right thing insuring quality on this product is right before releasing it.

I don't know why people put so much stock into these released dates by retailers like Crutchfield, because I have yet to see them EVER be right a single time with any of the Sat Radio equipment I have wanted to purchase from them. I was looking at my history at how many orders I have canceled due to their not getting the item when they said and my buying it elsewhere and I can tell you its been at least 7 times.

You just can't go buy what these people say in terms of a release date because its just some generated date and doesn't mean anything.

My initial thoughts after the first 2 delays was the 2.5 chipset design compatablity. That's why I raised the question of the possibility of skipping a generation and go directly yo yhe 3.0. Not only does it bring SIRIUS up to speed chipset-wise, but also delivers a better product. At some point and time SIRIUS WILL have to make leaps and bounds to make up ground get closer to XM, being it started a year later. I feel that this year has to be the start. Signing big name personalities is only a clue as to what is in store in the next 5-6 quarters of business for SIRIUS. Remember, 2007 is when the company is projecting to turn a profit. I am dissapointed in the delay of the ReGo but hey, If it takes longer to make it right and come to market with the newest chipset design, I'm willing to wait. I'm still holding on to September 1, 2005, as announced by CMA. To Crutchfield's credit, they did tell me that production problems was the reasoning as to delay and that none had hit the States yet. I personally think they (SIRIUS) went back to the drawing board and are working the 3.0 design into the unit. If so, expect the ReGo to be better that originally adverTised. Of course this just one man's opinion. We'll see.

Geez...Looks like they caught the Joe Clayton Vaporware-Bug. He was the king of announcing things way too early (remember January 2004 when he said video in 18 months?). This is a shame, but....if they end up with a 3rd gen chip instead, it will be a much better unit. With the 3rd gen chip around the corner, it really doesn't make sense to bring out "last year's model." The 3rd gen could be very cool.

Is Xact the only one trying to get a portable out? What about JVC or Audiovox?

Just seems strange to me. Nothing against Xact but you would think some other company would try to compete with the XM portable. And with Stern coming soon and reading the threads here in the forum a portable would be in high demand.

I'm sure numerous companies are working on them as we speak but nothing has been publicly announced.

As for me, XACT lost out a long time ago. My wife and I both have the stream jockey model. We've each had to return them several times, some features son't work (we were told by XACT that the features were not designed to work yet - ???). Various other problems as well. We both love Sirius and both hate XACT. I think I'll try the sportster replay.

Default Not-So-Sirius hardware

As a retailer, this has been an ongoing problem. Consumer get excited about a new piece. It's out in the mags and on the web and then...nothing. It becomes a problem for the retailer because (and while this may not make sense, trust me, it's overwhelmingly true) the consumer tends to blame the retailer as much or more than the manufacturer. The consumer is thinking "surely the magazine could not have been wrong, this retailer must just be lagging" or some such nonsense. I've heard it time and again.

Sirius has a problem with hardware in that it keeps promising things and not delivering. The diversity of Sirius hardware is its' strength and its' weakness.

The Xact stuff for instance, and please, I intend no disrespect to anyone how and enjoys this stuff, but it's junk. The ergonomics are dreadful. It's works mind you. As well as can be expected but it's a design and practical use stubbed toe. The controls on the tuner, stink. The car kit, oh my, a complete and total nightmare. The boombbox is a design disaster. That's not just my opinion, thats what customers tell me and for me, that's the important issue. We had to drop the line, it was just too problematic.

Now Blaupunkt may never release it's boombox (err, ummm...fourth quarter...yeah).

I had hoped to upgrade my personal hardware this spring (first gen. Kenwood, ugh). After seeing some possible alternatives at CES in January I was pretty excited. Then I waited. And waited. And waited. Then Sirius started screwing with the programming I wanted the service for and it ended up, I just cancelled my subscription.

Now I have a brand new car waiting for some kind of satellite radio (it's set up for XM but I'm sort of fighting it) and no receiver at home.

I have to admit, it hasn't been all that bad.

I hope Sirius and their hardware partners get their act together. My store and I have both been strong evangelists for Sirius but that's faded fast.

It's a shame.

As for the Sirius portables. I wouldn't hold my breath. I'll be very surprised if we see anything before Q2-2006. VERY surprised.

Default just my opinion

i think they screwed up on this
when you miss the deadline by that much you should just SCRAP THE PROJECT and start working on the next one!

if they release it and there still full of bugs it's gonna kill them

i wanted a portable so bad for the summer that i bought a Starmate and made my own portable kit like i did with my old Roady a couple of years ago.

don't worry SIRIUS i'm not gonna quit and move to XM because you don't have a portable unit!

This is my home and i need my dose of NFL 124 everyday portable or not!!

I don't think anybody is blaming the retailers, I for one am not. I'm blaming the ones making the hardware. Don't tell us you making a product and don't deliver.

I was wondering if Delpi is an exclusive maker for XM, and if not why can't they make one for Sirius. Audiovox makes hardware for both XM and Sirius. I believe JVC also but can't be 100% sure.
